I posted the same question a few days ago and I thank everybody for your input and advice. Since the original thread went way out of the original topic and I have some explaining to do I decided to re-post it. First of all, I was trying to find out what would be a fair price to ask for an engine, well engine and transmission bundle after all. Also, I was not sure if I could "advertise" it here, but since I am a paying Rennlist member, I guess I can, please correct me if I'm wrong. So, here is my story: I bought a cheap, poorly running, high mile 1989 S4 10 years ago. Planning for an engine swap I bought a very nice engine/transmission from JDM imports who specialize in importation of car parts from Japan. Since the car I bought had recent history of TB replacement by one of the "All European Car Specialist" shops I decided to retrace their "repair" prior to engine swap. I found out that they missed the cam gear alignment by 1 tooth on PS and 2 teeth on DS. Also, the WP was leaking, and the cam gears were worn. So, I re-did TB/WP job and did intake refresh, and the car has been running fine since. Going back to the JDM engine - it has been sitting in my climate-controlled garage, just occupying space and my wife has been "suggesting" with ever increasing level of persuasion that I sell it to somebody who really needs it. The engine/transmission are from 1990 S4 which was originally sold in Japan. The engine still has the OEM WP with date mark "89" and OEM TB. There is no wear on camshaft lobes, cam gear coating is full on PS, only a few shiny spots on DS. The crank can be rotated with good and even compression in all 8 cylinders as per "hand torque meter". The crank endplay is 0.19 mm. There is evidence of previous oil leak from the oil pump, no signs of any other leaks. The cam cover paint started flaking off, so I resprayed them. As far as mileage, JDM explanation was: We don't know exactly how many miles each engine has; however, we have been to Japan and seen that most cars have a mileage around 50-60 thousand miles. It is very rare to see a car that has a mileage over 80,000 miles. Therefore, our average mileage for each engine is approximately 60,000 miles. Given the overall condition of the engine I tend to agree. The S/N for the engine: 81L52170, transmission: 3L02189. At the end I agreed with my wife and let her list it on eBay - it's her "hobby" during summer break. Anyhow, available for 3k with no reserve: Porsche 928 Engine and Transmission in VERY good condition | eBay

Apologies from me since I helped in derailing your previous thread. Did go off quickly from your first post.
Seems like a great deal for the engine and transmission, and would be surprised if its not already sold.
Let us know what happens.
Cheers.

That combination is sitting at a bargain price. Having spent a good bit of time under my car recently, I wish dearly I could transplant those parts into my car.
Just out of curiosity, are you able to ship the parts? I have some family in IL that could probably help me out in a pinch.
Cheers

About 15 years or so ago, I shipped an S4 engine (and later a transmission) via freight. In each case, I had the item firmly strapped to a pallet, then built a plywood box around the item (attached to the box). Both arrived at the buyer's location about 1K to 1.5K miles away without any problems. Truck with fork dolly needed for loading at my driveway.
