Adhesive for center console

I'm in the process of restoring my interior... lots of cleaning, re-gluing, mending and such. Recently I attempted to re-glue the curled up edge of the center console. Used 3M Trim Adhesive and left clamped for a couple of days. Looked good for a while, but on the first sunny hot day, it separated again. Any suggestions on what to glue this down with? And, do I need to add heat initially to soften up the warp (curled) in the vinyl? I cleaned the old adhesive out the best I could with Q-tips and lacquer thinner. Any BTDT suggestions for making this stay?

No suggestions, only to put my bid in for an answer too. My A/T has pretty nice interior with only those small vent cracks in the dash and the curled edge on the center console. Which is probably the most annoying as it rubs the side of my leg while I'm driving and gets real tiresome on those long trips. After this last trip I took I was ready to break out the staple gun.

The strips below the auto shifter on my car were unglued and warped so I used GOOP glue I had around the house and a small 8" board held with a clamp or two till dry. That was well over a year ago and it is still down.

I just went through the same ordeal. I recovered the armrest and it came out great. I had it on for two days in the garage and it still looked great. First two hours in the sun... plop... it came all apart. I used 3M spray adhesive.
I went by an upholstry shop that recntly did some work for me and he sprayd some of his glue on both sides and put it back on for me. Defenitely very different stuff the glue the professionals use. It's on to stay now, but he did not reveal his secret as to what glue he had in the gun.![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Contact cement works great for center console, top edge of door panels and inside sunroof liner. Positive experiences with 5 928's over the years. Good luck.

I apologize for not remembering the product name but I've been using some left over German made contact cement sold to me by Automobile Atlanta for glueing on new hood insulation. It's made to take a LOT OF HEAT...and so far..it's working for my inside trim on my car too (I don't guarantee anything on anyone else's car). The big caveat with this stuff is....once it sticks, it's stuck permanently and you get no second tries. There are other contact cements "out there" that do the same just as well or good or better but I don't have experience with them. I'm all ears to hear what works well for others though.

Borland,
Is that a generic vinyl adhesive or is there a specific type I need to buy.
I am doing this on the S4 center console - same problem.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

3M adhesive just won't cut it. I used some super Wurth's adhesive (special applicator that mixes two chemicals together as it's pushed through the tube) which has held my '79 for five years now. However, it initially worked on my '88, but it's now lifted in a couple of places. I'm considering using a hot-glue gun this summer. IMO, you've got to use the nastiest most permanent stuff you can get your gloved hands on - and simple brush on or spray on adhesives aren't going to hold some applications.

I have run into this before as well. I am redoing the whole interior in mine. I went to a interior supply company in San Antonio and the guys swear by it. I bought a can of it and I am going to try it next weekend. They say it holds down any typ of material that has non-penetratable fabric backing. They use it for car tops on older cards.

Any vinyl adhesive you can find at the local hardware or crafts store. But here's what bought at Home Depot way back when:
VLP
vinyl adhesive for leather/vinyl repair
Plasti Dip International
Blaine MN
You only need a small amount (< 1 fl oz).
