There is no indication of a build date on a Euro 928. The sticker is a typical US thing.
Trevor, you can either order a certificate of authenticity from Porsche, or use the first registration date of your car to justify that it was produced before this date.

I'm in exactly the same boat ................ Local Porsche centre was "confident"it could tell me from their systems ...... no. They raised a "ticket" with Porsche in Germany ................... NO !! (date of invoice yes - not sure from whom to whom - but NOT date of manufacture ! ) This info got onto their systems a little after 1981 ? ............ and check the rules , it's not simply when the car is 40 years old !!!

It seems that the Porsche centers can collect data only for cars produced from the 1984 MY. Before that, they have to ask Porsche Stuttgart.
The date of invoice is the date at which the car was complete and invoiced from Porsche AG to the dealer (or importer certainly for non-German cars).

The VIN is a general indication, but not the most reliable. Some cars were certainly kept longer than others, due to additional work, for custom equipment or maybe to solve a technical problem.
The invoice date into the Porsche system is the best date, from my knowledge.
For early 928s (1978 & 1979), paper cards, quite close to the Kardex used until the end of the 60s, do exist. They are very interesting.
From 1984, the PET is usually reliable but it seems that some paper sources still exist. I know because I found some mistakes into the PET and Porsche was able to find the right data.
I don't know what is available for 1980 to 1983 MY, except that something must existe because we have some data avaible.
