Hi all,
Posting here before I put it in the marketplace and on (ugh) Facebook (there is a 928 group on FB). 1987 928S4 L35U Venetian Blue Metallic 5 speed; open diff (No option code 220 on the sticker) Murf stage 2 intercooled supercharger kit (V2 blower and air to water IC) X pipe RMB 17" C2 replica wheels Replaced S4 engine, the block is an early S4: 81H 06256, probably a squirter block.
Runs and drives. Probably not wise to try to drive it cross-country. Crappy repaint, numerous battlescars.
$8500
I am putting my brother's old car up for sale. I've had it for years since he passed away with the intention of fixing it up a bit to make a daily out of it or to sell it for more money, or... something. However family commitments are taking up a lot of my time and I have decided it's not getting fixed up, so I am going to list it for sale. The interior is partially apart but it might be a parts car so maybe a waste of time putting it back together. The supercharger head and intercooler are also off as I changed the timing belt and water pump and need to retension it before re-installing. The car is running with Ford 19 lb/hr injectors installed and I have all the SC parts. I can do the belt retension and reinstall the supercharger if a buyer gives me a deposit.
It's not as nice as it looks in the pics. More pics later in the thread. Scammers and lowballers cheerfully ignored.
Looks very photogenic considering you're saying it has battle scars etc.
Excellent price for a supercharged manual S4...very tempting. What reason(s) could this not make a long distance drive?
Can you provide interior pictures?
Thanks
I've seen way worse cosmetically - heck, I own one that looks worse cosmetically. Other than the bumper scuffs and scratches and the misfitting fuel filler door, it actually looks pretty decent.
Probably need some interior pics and under hood pics, but that's an attractive price.
I've bought a few cars (and gone on more than a few dates) having only seen pics and I'll tell you: pics are very flattering and reality not so much.
> What reason(s) could this not make a long distance drive?
It might. I'd be tempted to try it myself if I was a buyer. Right now the HVAC head is out but that could be put back in. Tires are pretty old, some people freak out about that but cool weather and reasonable speeds they probably won't come apart.
there is no proper air filter without the supercharger in place but duct tape exists. I would not recommend driving it but I have had 928s shipped and the shippers are confused by the dogleg and sports cars can get banged up loading/unloading (conveniently excluded from the shipping damage contract) so pick your poison.
Without cats it's not legal in CO so I have never plated it but I have snuck out to the gas station and around the neighborhood (maybe down the road a ways) without problems.
> Gosh you'll regret selling that! Good luck.
Thanks, you may be right but I sold my Ducati last spring and thought I'd regret that a lot, but I haven't (I have other bikes). I have another 928 but it's an auto. I'll think hard before advertising it to a wider audience, thanks for the wishes.
Water damage from before I got it. The blue seats match better in real life. Originals were linen (long gone). Example of the crappy repaint trying to flee the scene.
Update: I have not had much time to work on this car, the focus is to see if the heat and AC work so it could be driven long distance. The AC has a charge and the compressor engages, however I do not have a working blower motor despite refitting the HVAC head and the AC button/power lock button. Is there another module that is required for this? Several things are unplugged from the footwells.
I also need to sort out the electric fans, they are not getting powered.
Signs of life. I am back in town and was able to get the HVAC to blow, took a new HVAC head though. Ow. The better news is that the AC blows nice and cool:
Vent temp dropped into the high 40's (F) after a bit. 65F ambient. Maybe the charge could be topped up or maybe it's adequate. I have not checked the pressures.
The cooling fans also worked with the AC on, maybe they will also work when the car is up to temp now.
Next I need to install a relay harness for the AC compressor, I use a outboard foglight relay to protect the runty little relay in the HVAC head. Fused power from the jump post. It'd be just my luck to blow the relay in the new HVAC head, no need for that.
I have no idea what is wrong with the old HVAC head, no blower motor operation.
AC protection relay installed and working. Cooling fans working as expected (as normal as 5 electric fans can be). They came on after a long idle w/o the AC engaged. They also come on when the AC button is pressed. So that's good news.
I can't seem to locate the cone air filter so I will have to buy a replacement.
Interested party. I sent you a DM. this may be a smarter candidate than my potentially basket case, non running, cheapest 928 I could find that i took on.
