Nice pictures and should be a warning to anyone with an automatic 928, no matter the year. Very lucky the thrust bearing didn't seize itself to the crank and start ruining the block.
Auto 928 owners, check your end play measurements at the next oil change, check your drain plug for any silvery sludge buildup and your oil filter for any metal shards. Have known more than a few owners who invested a lot of money into their auto 928s, only to discover the engine had suffered a TBF event and needed a rebuild. At least if you catch it early like this example, you will limit the monetary pain.
Kevin, how any miles are on this example?

Crank End Play after new bearings:
We are putting a Super Clamp on it.
The block surfaces looked really good. Did not measure it. Was not going to change our decision to use the block we know. The spend for new parts including the Super Clamp was less than a good short block. And finding an 89 short block, well that is impossible. That goes for any S4 block.
