Post 1983 - Project Car Log

So, I'm completely new to working on cars, I don't know a damn thing about Porsche's mechanically, and I just bought this beast!

You guys have already been an invaluable source of knowledge. I've been pouring over this forum for a few days since I bought this, and its a phenomenal wealth of information!
I Plan on documenting what I assume is going to be a really fun nightmare on YouTube as well, but I feel like you guys might enjoy watching me spiral over this car too !

I have no words other than to say that car is a complete basket case, and I absolutely applaud your ambition. Please let us know how we can help.

Ah MrDonutLlama, I had the same thought a few months ago.... so Im about 24 episodes ahead of you

If you want to see how bad it can go ....
... it may be useful to you as Im guessing you will have to walk a similar path.

(I can only link a single video here - but if you look at my other videos there are 24 episodes so far starting with the initial walk-around all the way through engine rebuild and (currently) putting it all back together - hope it helps)

Good luck !

Todd.

Oh man! I actually started watching your videos yesterday and it gave me the idea to document my journey!

Gave the interior a cleaning, not perfect but enough so im not in a dust storm when i have to work inside of it, Ill get a video of that in the morning, Bar the Dash and the seats cracking the interior isn't in awful shape surprisingly!
I got it to turn over but it won't fire, so the first step is tracing that down, I'll definitely keep you guys updated and ask any questions i need. Greatly appreciate how open this community is!

Ah, glad you are enjoying the videos!

If she's been sitting a while it would be best not to try starting her. Take your time and check things over first - there will be crud in the fuel tank/lines and god knows what else.

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Definitely my man! And I will keep that in mind, I have a friend coming over on Tuesday who is a bit more knowledgeable about cars, not necessarily Porsches, but has a better baseline than me and hes going to help me go through all the fluids and get that up to snuff!

Also I managed to snag a minute to head outside and get a video of the interior after the dust is gone!

Did the exact same thing and am super pleased with the result and the learning to get there. My 83 was a non running car with no history.

this board is an awesome resource!

Best of luck and thank you for documenting everything.

Slight update:
Old owner has air intake tubes and various other trim pieces, going this week to pick them up.
Narrowed down fuel issue to a few things, possibly injectors, possibly fuel filter. Car fires with ether but has no fuel delivery.
Jostling a few fuses around got the seats working, going to go out tonight and clean off all the fuses and contact points, noticed fuse #8 for the sunroof has a contact tab broken off an is un-useable at the moment.
Took off the wrong access panel to get to fuel filter and fuel pump, found some more fuel lines with some hose clamps that need replacing so going to be doing that as well.
Going to be taking off the intake manifold, checking all the spark plugs, vacuum lines, etc that i can get to in that area to make sure, From the top most of it seems in pretty good condition but ya never know once ya look deep!
