Starting a little investigation, the car has a new fuel pump and filter.

Always worrisome when you see this on the floor board

Jumpered the fuel pump to test for leaks

Starting out, no evidence of fuel in the rail

Both dampers and the regulator leak out of the vac port....

Going in deeper

COLD (read cold) compression numbers with an unhappy battery

Cool. Another 928 / Cayenne owner. Keep the thread updated with your progress, though I won't be much help with this one as I only know the early cars like mine.

Very nice place to start. One of my favorite colors.
Being an '86.5 doesn't "hurt" either.
And the automatic transmissions work extremely well....very practical.

Thanks Petza! I have been avoiding my 957TT. I believe #8 cylinder is scored. The scope is out but the will is weak. To rebuild that motor right is more than just buying another 955/957. I wouldn't even mind doing the work myself, its more of the fix every other little thing while you are in there and the block would have to at least go to Flat6 or similar.

That looks restorable to me.
What caught my eye is the lack of a rear spoiler.
Even more, whoever removed it also went to the trouble of putting a seal and trim in the rear quarter windows from either a pre-spoiler model or an '87 or later model.
The holes from the original spoiler are filled, but there are two holes on each side of the hatch, which makes me wonder if they put an S4 spoiler or some other "wing" spoiler on there at some point, and it has been removed.

Yes I would like a time machine to say "Please dont". Other than that it looks pretty unmolested. 55k miles seems to line up right with all the vehicle history dates. Seems to have gone into storage around 2010.

Got the car, of course the driver refused to deliver to my commercial address which means two hours in the cold putting it on my too high equipment trailer. Got it in the garage last night and questioned my sanity again.

Today, tore into it. Fuel is coming out of the two dampers and the regulator............

Was worried he could have gas locked the motor by trying to start it too much. Cold compression numbers are 155-170 PSI across all cylinders so I think thats not the case given that seems like OK cold compression numbers for a 32v.

Not sure what I will tackle first. Replace the regulators and try to start or just go deep deep deeper. I would much rather figure out what is working before going whole hog on it.

It is ridiculous that the dampers are $500 each.

Pulled the fan and belts off to start isolating a crunchy sound in the rear. Kind of a sheet metal sound like the flex plate is cracked. Motor turns over fine by hand.

Still looking at damper.regulator options. Spent a lot of time on Radium's site and trying to put together globe seal metric connections. The damper scenario is ridiculous. Let make failure mode intake fuel dump. Static dampers seems like a much better solution. What Kevin in Atlanta is putting together is exactly what we need.
