If a single person who brags about absurd 928 horsepower, actually owned a flow bench, they would know how silly their claims are.
The stock heads will flow enough air to make right at 400hp (flywheel), at 100% volumetric efficiency.
....and none of these engines work at 100% volumetric efficiency.
If you figure your automatic transmissions "absorbs" 15% horsepower, 340 rear wheel horsepower equals 391 flywheel.
....anything more than that, with stock heads, is what dreams are made of.

After over 50 years in the Porsche only business, I've heard an unimaginable amount of horsepower claims.
I've gotten smart enough to completely ignore these....unless the engine is hooked to a calibrated engine dyno I'm familiar with...and I am actually watching the test (see * notation below.)
And then, I only care about other people's horsepower claims, when they drive by one of my cars...and I've spent my entire life making sure that is an extremely rare event. (I actually can't remember that happening.)
Almost without exception, I'm laughing my a$$ off, as my 360 rwhp car drives away from their 450 rwhp car.
It's one of the best ever feelings!

Curious - was that the 996 GT2 engine? Those were based on the GT1 block, which were bulletproof.

As far as I am concerned, the first successful and race tested from day one dry sump system for example was built by Pace and certainly not you! The fist off the shelf ITB system which requires minimum modifications and is based on stock parts was built by me, and not you. The first successful equal length header system for RHD cars was built by AdrianSe and not you. My car has a NASCAR triple disc carbon clutch. Probably not as smooth as yours, but about a third of the cost and more importantly, we build it in 2015! And it’s not that complicated if a bunch of Eastern European morons like us could work it out. But we don’t go shouting from the rooftops how amazing it is and how dare Greg Brown charge and arm and a leg. Do we?

I was talking in general, not specifically about anyone or anyone's engine.....certainly not yours!
(Although the 360hp 928 racing the 450hp 928 actually did occur at a drag strip....multiple times, in one night.....rolling start, standing start, 20mph start...didn't matter.
I have no idea of how your engine performs...me commenting on what is happening with your engine or any other engine, in the UK or Europe (or outside my little world), would be completely, totally, stupid.
I'm also pretty sure, from what you have done, that you are way more of an expert than I am.
I'm just one little guy, working in my own little cave,.doing my best.
I've got no other experts to rely on!
Pretty clearly (by what you say above) there are way more experts, in Europe, than here!
The only way I get something new for a 928, over here, is to make it.....myself.
Because there's no one else doing anything new for the 928's, here. (Except coping my work.)
Regardless of how badly your ears burned and how badly you reacted, I'm going to stick to the simple point I was trying to make:.
Dyno numbers, over here, are greatly inflated.
People will "shop" all around for a dyno that gives them the power they "want" to have, not what is real.
And regardless of what you or Ake think of me,
I've spent most of my life building cars/engines that drive around people with crazy claims.
And there's a giant line of people waiting for me to work on their 928....
And I've never needed to apologize for either of those!

This is how I see it:
- A guy comes in and asks for advise on his ITB-ed car, which doesn't seem to make a lot of horsepower while being mapped on a dyno.
- Another member says, these numbers are low and then adds that Alex (yours truly) and John Gill from New Zealand have got around 430rwhp from their standard displacement engines
- Then I come in and say that my engine is very far from stock - only the crank and rods are standard - thus the fact that my engine made 434rwhp is not exactly a benchmark
- And then comes Greg - normally he is very helpful and has a vast knowledge of all things 928 (almost unrivaled) - but instead of offering advise on what the reason for the low Hp number could be, he starts talking how his 360rwhp engine beat another 410rwhp engine. Then he proceeds to talk how great his stuff is - yes, it is - no one has ever questioned it - and continues to explain how crap everyone else is, and how people go dyno shopping
- Original poster comes in and says his ITBs have short trumpets. I say that John Gill and I have the empirical evidence that short trumpets on standard displacement engines lead to power losses
- Greg continues to tell how great his engines are - we know that Greg, and nobody has ever disputed the fact - instead of offering advise/opinion on whether incorrectly sized ITBs/trumpets could be one of the reason for the seemingly low HP number

I guess we have a choice - we can either go back to discussing the lack of power on a standard S4 engine with ITBs and try and delve deeper into the problem so we can help the OP, or we can just agree that no engine is any good unless it's a GB 360rwhp product and move on...

I guess we have a choice - we can either go back to discussing the lack of power on a standard S4 engine with ITBs and try and delve deeper into the problem so we can help the OP, or we can just agree that no engine is any good unless it's a GB 360rwhp product and move on...
Seem to have touched a sore nerve...
This is how I see it:
- A guy comes in and asks for advise on his ITB-ed car, which doesn't seem to make a lot of horsepower while being mapped on a dyno.
- Another member says, these numbers are low and then adds that Alex (yours truly) and John Gill from New Zealand have got around 430rwhp from their standard displacement engines
- Then I come in and say that my engine is very far from stock - only the crank and rods are standard - thus the fact that my engine made 434rwhp is not exactly a benchmark
- And then comes Greg - normally he is very helpful and has a vast knowledge of all things 928 (almost unrivaled) - but instead of offering advise on what the reason for the low Hp number could be, he starts talking how his 360rwhp engine beat another 410rwhp engine. Then he proceeds to talk how great his stuff is - yes, it is - no one has ever questioned it - and continues to explain how crap everyone else is, and how people go dyno shopping
- Original poster comes in and says his ITBs have short trumpets. I say that John Gill and I have the empirical evidence that short trumpets on standard displacement engines lead to power losses
- Greg continues to tell how great his engines are - we know that Greg, and nobody has ever disputed the fact - instead of offering advise/opinion on whether incorrectly sized ITBs/trumpets could be one of the reason for the seemingly low HP number
Then I lose it and we are where we are. Funny how also Rennlist seem to have deleted a few posts along the way...
