Default Current Fair Market for a Euro S

I've got a line on an '85 Euro S on e-Bay that at least initially checks out. It's about as close to ideal as I can get (I don't like red, but I'll suck it up for the extra ponies). What I want to know is if there is concensus on what the going rate for a Euro S is?

Knowing the nature of the beast- getting outbid- it is with some reservation that post the e-Bay link. The car looks good to me, but how does the price look?

I'd rather buy from someone who knew what size tyres were on the car. Actually there is no actual info there as far as I can see: The mileage is unknown, the last Cam Belt change is undocumented.

Also could someone explain what's happened to that speedo - I pressume it's to do with it being an import - I'm just curious.

Damn, he has 2, take a closer look at the garage in the back ground. Wish I could help on the price, but I don't know much about the 928's, anyone? Looks clean, but thanks to Uncle Sam, it's just a tease to me.

Sounds promising: with 9 days left, you may want to contact the most recent owner/operator, because it isn't the seller ("my tech estimates the TB/waterpump to be ~ 5-6K miles..."). If the seller makes that available to you, at least I'd feel more confident having the opportunity to ask specific questions.
The tires are bound to be a bit loose -215/R18/50 on 16" wheels, but we all make typos - rite??

Value ?? something less than the $8995 BUY IT NOW price or it would be sold already . Seriously ; condition , condition , condition now determines the value on nearly any 928 . If this car is close to what you want and the condition is good what other car can you buy for less than $10,000 that can do as much ? Do check out the vin # to be SURE it is an 85 with the Borg Warner syncros and not an 84 . If you put $8,000 in your pocket and drove to see the car there is a very good chance you would OWN it .......it is highly unlikely that the dealer has much over $5 - $6 k in the car .

Looks nice. Worth what you'll pay, of course, but I'd put "fair" at $2000 to $9000 depending on the real condition. From the looks, and if the description is close, an "eBay value" of $7500.

It's a 5-speed too, which might increase the value as well.

In my case, I was willing to pay an extra $2K over the price of US model s2 cars, in order to have the additional horsepower...

UKKid, I'm not going to sweat the guy for a typo, but the description is a bit non-descript. I'm going to call this guy here in a bit and get the low-down.

The wife already OK'd the purchase contingent on my letting my current love interest go. If I'm slick about it, I may be able to keep her on the sly. We'll see.

I'd be nervous about this car...or at least this guy. I don't think he knows much about the subject since he states that "the VIN has an "O" in it and eBay's system will not allow it to be posted". Well...it's not an "O" it is a zero. He/she cannot read the size of the tire off of the sidewall, and that speedometer is scary- who knows what kind of bad wiring is lurking inside that pod.

What's up with the brass fitting on tube from the oil fill?

Why are the speaker grills in the doors missing?

-This one would require a thorough PPI before I'd consider bidding.

Good luck-

Normy!

Jim- How do I find out about the transmission? This is a huge deal for me since I am currently looking at pouring about $3000 into my current car for just that very thing (and a few others).

Did the Borg-Wagner XMSN hav the same gear ratio (2.73)?

It has the early style with a single speaker in the door panel, no grills to be missing.

Good catch on that brass fitting, maybe an aftermarket air/oil seperator?

Normy, who can do PPI's? I'm not at all familiar with the Dallas scene (except the Cowboy Bar..that place rules). Would a local dalership be a good place to start?

What is the problem with the speedo? Someone has simply put decals on the outer plastic bezel (you can see the shadows if you look close) Those will simply peel off and have nothing to do with wiring or the speedo.

>What's up with the brass fitting on tube from the oil fill?

Possible explanation is that the hose going from the oil filler to the TB on the Euro S is different from the US versions and most people do not know how to get that hose. In order to use the US version hose you must make an adapter, it seems that this is what happened there.

>Why are the speaker grills in the doors missing?

Most Euros did not have the optional (standard in US) M490 "Hi-Fi option ". This makes the Euros slightly lighter.

>How do I find out about the transmission? This is a huge deal for me >since I am currently looking at pouring about $3000 into my current car >for just that very thing (and a few others).

Easy, have the owner to get the numbers off of the bottom of the transaxle, numbers should be "G28/10 " Serial # 11F0xxxx, if it has a "12" before the serial number it has a limited slip.

>Did the Borg-Wagner XMSN hav the same gear ratio (2.73)?

85 Euro S has 2.73.

All in all this seems to be a very nice Euro S. and if it is as nice as the photos make it seem and it checks out OK, then the price is very fair.

Besides, the owner clearly states that if you don't like it he will not hold you to the deal.

Frankly, if it had a black interior and was a little closer this thread would be a mute subject :-)

To me the 85 Euro S has the best of all the 928 features,.. early "S" styling, first year of the better 5-speeds, and that sweet little 16v 310hp LH injected screamer under the hood, plus a little less "fat" than the US versions. AND nice ones are not easy to find, especially 5-speeds.

I say go for it.... before I start getting "too" used to the interior color :-)

I agree, no point ignoring what could be a good buy just because of a typo. I'm just amazed that people are so careless when presenting something for sale when you only have the description and a few low res pics to rely on initially. At least the wheels aren't on back to front this time...
