Slop in the shifter for this car is not unheard of. Give Roger a call at 928sRus.com and he will diagnose most likely what you need to replace. Could be as simple as a shifter ball cup.

By the way, nothing wrong with "Do-It-Yourselfers", I maintain all my cars at home (same with many others on this forum) and take exceptional pride in my work, which cannot be said for all dealerships or Indys.
