It's first drive today... it's a little noisy in the back.

Yikes! That is one toasted and dried out half shaft...

Are there any significant differences in the half-shafts of the super early cars?

Gearbox in good shape?

And so it begins. Good luck Andrew - I know you'll do it justice!

I 'm not aware of axle differences. Gearbox not fully rowed through yet...scary axle noise kept the speeds very low. Soon we will be terrorizing the 'hood properly.

Had the fuel tank out and saw this black tape up on the body where the top of tank fits against it... same as car #1. Also Interesting adhesion problems in the wheel well from the original paint applied right over what appears to be completely unprepared galvanizing.

An inop driver window got me into the driver door. Some horrible finds (like added speakers) and some interesting finds.

First the horror... speakers, and "sort of" matching replacement vinyl on upper section of door panels. Note lack of original speaker perforations in the vinyl.

Pre-production door panel construction... awesome, rigid, straight, strong, waterproof. Soon to become victim to cost cutting.

Notice the full run of vacuum hoses (instead of plastic tubes) for the door locks. I've never seen this sticker on a window either.

OMG looks at those early doors vents in such great condition.

Does this car also have the star-shaped interior door lock *****?

I guess, I'm a bit late to the party. Has the superlative "astonishing" been used yet to describe your find and how you did it? Astonishing also to see the interior SO NICE despite sitting out in the elements with just a cover for so long. And you got it running in short order. Hats off to you!

I thoroughly enjoy all the interesting finds when digging into these early ones. It's like going back in time.

Here is the door panel from #11. Same as yours and check out the circled part. That is where they covered a hole with a piece of felt that looks to be the same location that some of the prototypes had crank window handles!

Looks like that the company BROSE which made the door panels still exists, very cool car!
