An "image" of #2 showed up on side of the Bandai 1/20 scale model box. I say "image" because its a picture of a white plastic model but they used the license plate from #2, and provided the decals for it in the kit. I theorize they chose this number because the kit was from Japan and #2 appeared in a Japanese magazine.
Don't want to look immodest but I had spotted a very early (one of the around 400 first) RoW 928 on that picture.
It was just impossible to guess that it was so early
Yes, I had a number of messages calling dibs on the front fenders!
Here's some fuel system stuff you don't see often. This is the fuel lines, accumulator, filter, and fastenings from a pre-production car...all intact on 928 #2. There's a half rubber half steel line that goes from the pump and up above the wheel well, it attaches to another rubber line that goes into the accumulator. The accumulator and filter are clamped to the (steel) fender liner in front of the RR wheel. Was the same in #1 as well.
As far as I'm aware all the '78 G28.03s had a serial # that started with 118. The presence of a LSD buys you the /12 modifier after the G28.03 stamping.
In the very early Euro transmission, there are going to be a number of quirks regarding the shift rods and some of the shim dimensions. If you're going to go through it, Greg just completed a rebuild on one, might be worth picking his brain.
interesting... i was going by this document regarding car #6 for the transmission serial number series, but we've seen where there are plenty of mistakes in these types of documents from that era (like in the next document)
1. a. There were 12 pre-production cars in the series not 10 (I can check the engine & transmission numbers later today).
1. b. Interior (was and is) brown/beige and black with brown//beige and black pasha.
2. Obviously #11 was actually number 1 and was pre-production press car (test car as well???).
This is why we have to get into the archives ourselves to definitively document these cars!
Here's the 78-80 Tech Specs booklet with the breakdown on transmission serial numbers. Of course, there's an error on this page too, the /12 designation for LSD follows the transmission type stamping, it doesn't precede it.

No problem Ed! I know it just slipped although I thought that maybe you had to be at VIN 6 or lower to get any sugar.
It might be a possibility for me as I’m hoping the car will be painted about a year from now which would give time for reassembly. If it can get close I will bring it!

Looks like its not an error - look at the labels. "Transmission No." refers to the serial number on the table below, which the 12 does precede. It does also follow the Transmission Type
