Default Jump Post Cover and Cap

I always thought it was interesting how often the missing jump post cover was noted when someone posted a picture of his engine compartment. Some of mine are missing also, so I decided to see if I could come up with a new and better, more robust, design of one. I of course made mine out of ABS plastic and a bit heavier than the factory item. I moved it forward about a half inch and rounded it at the corners. Then I put some cool looking fins or ribs on the inboard face of it. I beefed it up further inside, mainly by adding the flange(s) on top to go over the inner edge of the fender, and I put a fairly thick doubler under the mounting hole. That makes the Cover cover more of the jump post so I had to devise and fabricate a new Jump Post Cap out of red Acetal with the correct metric threads in an insert pressed into it. Then I redesigned the cap lanyard so it is more purpose intended than the original one appears. Here are some pictures of what I came up with. jfeather@bresnan.net

I have both, but if your 14 pin connector cover will stay on I'm a buyer. Mine is loose every time I open the hood. (don't tell me how to put it on as I've tried them all)

Thanks Tony and Tam. I am pleased with the friends I have developed in the 928 community and particularly here on Rennlist. You have all been great.

Hi Gator. I wonder what the issue has been about them not staying on for you. Any idea? You have not tried mine because no one else has one.

sorry, Jerry I didn't mean to imply I had tried your cover, but that I had tried all the tips for keeping the original one on (short of glue).

Thanks. I knew you didn't mean mine. I haven't done any kind of research to figure out why so many are missing. I have just assumed that it is from neglect in putting them back or misplacing them after they are removed for some reason. My cap is a bit shallower than the originals but otherwise is pretty much the same with metal threads inside, just not as far inside. Mine are designed to be installed just finger tight since I didn't put any flats on them.

That is awesome, Jer.

Porsche should have coloured the jump post cap red to indicate hot positive power.

Yours is a definite upgrade that makes sense.

How much?

edit - I have not been around here much lately, so was not aware of the passing of your bride. My deepest condolences, kind sir.

BIG visual improvement over OEM! Noted.. I will be a buyer of a pair of these in the future, assuming they become available for sale.

Great work. The flimsiness of the OEM piece always bothered me.

I'm in for one if they're available for sale. Let us know.
