Classic Car Stereo
www.classiccarstereo.co.uk

No affiliation, great service.

From my search it is available through a number of providers in Europe in Germany, Netherlands, etc.. Low stocks apparently as they are flying out as soon as they get any batches.

Hope the install works. I've been waiting to pull the trigger as I thought they would be available closer to home but that doesn't seem t be the case. Still very interested though.

I have one going into my 1979 manual, the unit arrived with my installer yesterday and looks great. The way you can configure the lights is really cool, mine is going red as I have red LEDs throughout my dash.

One thing though, we couldn't find out what file formats it supports - the manual refers only to MP3 and WMA. Will be disappointing if it doesn't support FLAC.

Do you need have the flap open for the mini aux or is there an Out in the back if you want to run the out so where else. Also is there an internal hard drive in it?

I would just use bluetooth streaming (which it supports). Why bother with the USB connection - unless you want your phone on charge while playing or using a static iPod.

Just spotted this thread and asked a local car radio fitter for this thoughts - my car has been pre-wired. He replied just now:Thanks for your enquiry,

Unfortunately I wouldn't be interested in a fit into a car like this of amps and speakers , firstly because of the work that's been already done , every cable would need to be checked how it's fitted and that it's not going to short in the future through rubbing , also the car is not one I'm familiar with at all as i've never worked on one .

I will say I'd rethink your head unit selection , I don't know if you know but blaupunkt are not a quality brand anymore , a Chinese company brought the name and they are not built with quality parts anymore ( just a tip for you )

Sorry I can't help you with the amps or speakers on this car .

To be fair, all such components are built either in China, Malaysia or Vietnam these days. As for the quality, from my initial inspection, it looked quite good. I will reserve my final judgement until after I install it... but to be fair, the price is right, and the functionality is all that is needed, specially if you compare with the Porsche Classic Radio. There are other DIN radios you can consider from Continental , etc but I am sure they are also built in SE Asia.

Oh, I agree! I have an old UK made Audiolab 8000A amp and somewhere on the internet there's a breakdown of the UK build versus the Chinese build....I agree there's not much choice....I'm still tempted by the Blaupunkt!

Khaled asked me about the 8 pin DIN pin out. For the rest of you too - here are some links in case you need to make your own adapter:

I ordered one on 11/11, it arrived today, not bad from Leeds in the UK.

Faceplate:

Media slots:

Chassis is shorter than an old full size DIN chassis:

Connections on the back:

Features from the box - 4x 50 W amps built in. Which seems preposterous given how light the unit is- only 850 grams, (<2 lbs)

Are they MOSFAT Amps? What is the RMS rating?

I used to have a Toronto SQR 46 in my Audi 90 back in ~1987. Looked just about like this... At the time I absolutely loved it - and the Audi too!.

My older Audi 80 actually handled better though - but it wasn't as powerful or anything like as as nicely appointed...

Nice to see this again!
