The important thing is the back: Does it plug right into the existing harness or is it hack time?

Personally, I love my Blaupunkt Heidelburg SQR47.

Everything is relative, and I think it's a bargain.

I paid over $300 for the head unit I installed in my first car. As far as inflation goes that is about $550 in today's dollars. That was a mid-grade Sony CD player which I still have in a box somewhere.

$500 for a head unit isn't that bad. Especially one that looks period correct.

That is about the going rate of any good double din unit with navigation. So the price isn't way out there.

Consider what the original this unit is based off of goes for used in the current market.

Well Hacker, the blue car, 1987 S4 Strosek Breitbau, has the factory Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 installed. The other blue car, 1985 S2 Strosek, has the factory Blaupunkt Köln SQR 23. Both radios do have the cassette player and everything else is working. For you guys who do not know, Blaupunkt means Blue Dot which can be find on every Blaupunkt radio.

Maybe this will squash some of the $1k prices for the used Sq46’s out there on the market.

Yeah, that is pretty cute but would likely fit a tick better in the period BMWs or Audis which had red backlighting.. If you have a Bremen SQR 46 (I have several), you will note that the backlighting is the same as our 928 dashboard and the display can be set to the same orange as our digi-displays are. Nonethelss, pretty nice though!

ps. - yes, as someone else mentioned, what does the back look like??!

You can change the backlighting-colour of the new Bremen.

I too am excited about this

I have an Alpine head unit which isnt too hideous, but would love a period look unit for my 928.

$500 isnt too bad

like someone else mentioned, will it match up to the harness in the back?
