FYI (as listed in Autotrader.com) -
For ChuckZ and other GT owners here to inspect located in North GA, I believe based on the area code:
1989 Porsche 928 S, V8, 5 spd , ps, pb, ac, pw, tilt, stereo, am/fm, ABS, sunroof, lthr, alarm, CD, new engine, n/tires, neat, m/sell, $16,000 OBO. 706-495-0200, 706-791-2622
No affiliation, etc. Happy '89 GT hunting...find out about the nature of the "NEW ENGINE". Also, note how the advertisement says "928 S"...perhaps this seller does not know what a GT is....who knows![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Best,
Tim

Old & New et al.,
Agreed. However, the operational definition of "new engine" must be clarified here. I just called to get the VIN#, engine #, find out who did the work, etc. I will post a follow-up once I get some relevant information.
Best,
Tim

Update on the car after speaking with the owner (Loring L.) who currently lives in the Augusta, GA area. Apparently, my friends, this is a pretty unique Shark. As it turns out, it is a 1989 EURO 928s4 (5-speed) silver on black leather with a "complete service history" and apparently, a "new EUROSPEC engine installed by a Porsche dealer in Belguim". The assigned VIN# is WPOZZZ92ZKS841870. So, the VIN# is higher than 1000...does that make it a GT? I'm ignorant here...were GTs produced for Europe too?
Loring (the owner) told me that this was his personal while working in Belgium with the U.S. Govt. He recently obtained an EPA Waiver for the car as part of the federalization process (i.e., NO catalytic converter will be required) and the car recently completed federalization at Eurosport in Cape Coral, FL (phone: 239-458-9117) sometime in January '04. Apparently, the car is available for inspection as it is still in the federalizer's possession (currently stored under a car cover).
Federalization required installation of impact beams in the doors and changing the spedometer to MPH...not sure if the odometer software was converted to miles from kilometers. Incidently, the odometer reads 189,000 KILOMETERS. I told Loring about Rennlist so he may be posting here soon. Photos will be forthcoming...
Best,
Tim
ps.
Again...I have NO Affiliation here with the seller...just wanted to see this unique Shark go to a good home...

Hello Tim, nice foot work. You should get a brokerage fee. ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
"Garth S" has an 88 Euro 928. I'm sure he could eloquently answer some questions for those that may be interested.
Cheers,
Mike

tuk_928,
Yes Porsche did build the 89 GT in Europe too. Was called "club sport" or "SE", I think. You would have to check the option codes to be sure if this car is one of them. I'm not sure the rule of thumb about the VIN holds for Euro cars. BTW, I think in the US the 89 GT has a VIN higher than 1100.

Club Sport and SE production ended some time during winter '88/89 and Porsche started making '89 GT for European market like they did for US. Last known CS has VIN 991. Don't know what is first Euro GT VIN but suspect it's very close to first US GT.
What I do know is that we desperately need site like 928 Registry in here also. Chuck Z, please include euros to your site.
Just '78's, Club Sports, SE's and '89 GT's if you want to save disk space and your workload. Your sites layout is very good. Euro GTS registry and Samuels CS site is all we have managed AFAIK. I'm not saying they are bad, yours is just better.

Erkka,
Thanks for the nice comments. I would consider the Euro CS, SE and 89 GT. Perhaps the GTS too. First I have to get my registration page working again. Been down for a while and can't figure out what the problem is. Registrations are now being done by sending me an email which is not the best way. Have some more assistance and hopefully will be up and running again soon. Might help is someone were willing to track and submitt them as they come up on Euro eBay or other for sale sites. Erkka, might you be willing to assist?

Problem with tracking 928's and all cars in general in Europe is that sellers very rarely if ever give out VIN in ad. Can't remember ever seeing one in Mobile.de, Autoscout24, eBay.de, eBay.co.uk and other places. If one asks it from seller many do not have a glue what it is and rest will check it wrong giving more often 16 or 18 chars long than what it's suppose to be.
So I think only reliable way to get info of euro cars is to have owners type it in themselves into a form where they can make as few mistakes as possible. This by no means mean that I'm not willing to help, just an observation how things work in here.

Chuck Z and Vilhuer,
Thank you for the information...
I'm curious if anyone on the list has contacted the owner (or Euro Sport - the federalizer) about this car? I'm still trying to get ahold of some photos and a listing of the option codes for the group's inspection.
Best,
Tim
