Default 86.5 engine fire repair picture thread

Hi all,

The process of repairing the 86.5 from the fire damage is moving along slowly but surely.
I share a lot of pictures of the process on facebook, but FB sucks at finding back old posts/pictures.
So I will be sharing the pictures in this thread.

Stay tuned for more pics :-)

Cheers

Well, it doesn't look so bad for a fire. That is the good news.

There will be some time and money to put into it, though.

Any idea what caused it?

Interested to know what caused the fire. was it a fuel or power steering hose? if so how old were they?

I’m guessing it was the fuel lines, once that started burning it also took out a ps hose, which explains the heat on the left side of the car.

fuel lines were replaced four years ago, but apparently not with the correct ethanol proof material (there is up to 10 percent ethanol in our fuel...)

That was a mess...but you've made a ton of progress!
I recall that you found a "donor" car from Texas and had it running. But I don't recall "which way" you were doing the transplanting? (What parts were going where) And why?
Just curious on your thought process.

Thanks!

I am rebuilding the fire-damaged car.
The Texas donor car was in worse overall condition than the fire-damage car, which was in an A condition before it caught fire...

But I am really happy to have the donor car, without it, it would have been extremely expensive and difficult to source all parts.
It also helps to have an example to see what goes where :-)

Cheers
