I did it!!! Here's my New Project

Thank you so much, It still seem a little crazy that a car company would only make 2,577 cars in a year. That's only about 10 per day. Like I have to come to work and put 5 engines in before lunch and 5 before we go home.
They must have been made on the same assembly line as something else?

In 1989, Ferrari made a total of 1338 328s (GTS AND GTB) - (approx, F car numbers are vague).
For awhile, Porsche would make more cars in a year than Ferrari had made total. I once owned a Ferrari 308 GT4 - there were appr 2800 built between 1974 and 1979 - in six years! Porsche seems like a large scale maker compared to that.

First project is done!!!!
I replaced the master cylinder and the brake lines from 928 Motorsports. When I replaced the master the brake fluid had the consistency of jello and I drained the entire system and replaced it Pentosin fluid. When I bleed the clutch system the fluid was almost black. When I took the master off, the brake booster looked perfect, no fluid, water or rust inside of it so I left it. The car brakes perfect now. Next is the timing belt then AC or power steering, I think the power steering has a bit of a leak so yea definitely power steering after timing belt.

I love the car, and I love the story of how you got it! First finding one local, a manual trans, and then getting a great deal on it! Doesn't get much better than that! Congrats!
I enjoy buying rare cars. Always on the lookout. Whenever I drive through remote towns, I am literally scanning back yards and behind small rundown repair shops to see if I spot a unique car that might be for sale.
Post some more pics when you can, especially of the interior!

Well after 5 months and almost every evening and Saturdays I've got the car coming right along. Here is what's been done so far.
Master cylinder
Stainless brake lines
Clutch slave cylinder
Hall sensor
Water pump
Timing belt
Timing belt Tensioner
Harmonic balancer
Oil pump seals
Front main seal
Cam Timing gears
Cam seals
Oil pan gasket
Motor mounts
Power steering pump
Power steering reservoir
Power steering rack
Power steering mounts
Boil out radiator
Radiator hoses
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Ignition cap & Rotors
Fixed the knock sensors (not hooked up)
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
All under hood fuel lines
Heater control valve
Chin spoiler
Belly pan
Alternator hose
Yesterday I took it for a drive of almost 100 miles and it ran great. Took it on some freeway for about 75 of it and in the mountains for the rest.
It still needs some shocks and I need to look at the suspension but it ran and drove great. I got so much from all of you and everything on the site

I'm just trying to get it fixed back up to a level where I could drive it to California without too much worry, that's about 1500 miles round trip from Salt Lake.
This article from Jay Leno sums it up perfectly

Nice car , color and… wheels ! perfect setup for a 928 .
Can you please post a pic from behind ? one of my thoughts was using a '90 GT rear wing, painted black ,on my white rally car build….instead of a GT3 wing , which i have , but doesn't look "historic" correct...

I have been working on my 928 for almost 2 years now. The community is really great. There are so many post of problems but here is a post of how great this community is and how much help everyone has been.
I have to thank Garity and Dave at Motorsports in SLC, I could ask them any questions and they would tell me how to do it, also Garity has got a bunch of parts that I could call and see if he had any.
The Rennlist community, WOW! really great, so many write up's of how to do projects on the car. Roger at 928rus was alot of help with parts.
My local Porsche parts guy was awesome, he overnighted me more parts than I can count, on Porsches dime, and wholesale prices.
The car I'm keeping as a drivers car, I don't want to show it, just drive it. Currently the car runs perfect, starts every time I turn the key. It has sat in the garage for a year while I work on her and test drive her and not one drop of anything on the floor. Who ever owned it in the previous 30 years must have kept it in the garage, only 2 screws broke taking them out (those little screws that hold the brake rotor to the hub). The car is really great, it is a show stopper. In my town I see lambos, McLaren's, GT3's, plenty of exotics but never a 928.
- Here is a list of all the things I have done so far
- Master cylinder
- Flex Brake lines
- Power steering pump
- Power steering reservoir
- Radiator fans/shroud
- Timing belt
- Harmonic balancer
- Front main seal
- Oil pump seals
- Oil pan gasket
- Water pump
- Hall sensor
- Cam timing gears
- Plug wires, cap and rotors
- Motor mounts
- Power steering rack
- Hans short shifter
- Hans oil baffle
- Power steering mounts
- Fuel pump
- Fuel filter
- Engine fuel lines
- Radiator boil out
- Radiator hoses
- Radiator temp sensor
- Steering wheel bearing
- Chin spoiler
- Belly pan
- Rear belly pan
- Replace all ac flex hoses
- AC compressor
- rebuild ac system
- Replace vacuum hvac relays
- Relay on hvac controller
- HVAC fan
- HVAC Vacuum actuators
- Powder coat valve covers
- Powder coat intake (Donnie Buswell did these for me)
- Flappy valve rebuild
- Replace all vacuum lines
- Fuel pressure regulator
- Maf rebuild
- Remove intank fuel pump
- Fuel level sender
- Koni shocks
- Front wheel bearing
- Tie rods
- Ball joints
- Rebuild axle half shafts
- Clutch & redo throwout bearing to GTS style
- Clutch slave cylinder
My torque wrench is always used for reassembly and any thing on the drive train gets new bolt and nuts. Someone put a torque chart on Rennlist and I printed it out on a piece of foam core and hung it on the wall.
The radio doesn't work and I haven't even looked at it, who needs a radio when you have a dohc 5.0l Porsche V8 engine to listen to. LOL
I'm sure I have spent more on parts than the car is worth, But isn't that how it always is with classic cars.

Wow! All the work and all those parts and you still don't have a Cowl Cover, a Cowl Seal, or a 14 Pin Cover, aka, Jump Post Cover. Then I have to wonder what kind of condition your Spare Tire Cover is in. You ought to get ahold of Jerry and work some of that out.
