Updated website of 928 in-car track videos
So if you've got a fat pipe internet connection and like 928 in-car videos, then this is the webpage for you. It contains all the videos I've made while driving my modded 928S4 at various track days and driver's ed events in Northern California over the last year.
928S4 In-car Videos
I know the webpage is horrendously messy, but I'll organize it better in time. Right now it's just a compilation of the posts I've made on the 928s4vr.com message board. A generous friend has given me the storage space and bandwidth to host these videos, so a big thanks to him.
(Standard obligatory DE video warning: All these videos were made during open track days or driver's ed days so it's not actual racing. Conclusions about the relative abilities of the cars & drivers shown should not be drawn. This is only an exhibition, this is not a competition, so please ladies and gentlemen, no wagering. etc.)
Hope you enjoy the show.

I found that site today while looking for specs on the 928S4 and was very impressed with the videos and the level of detail about the tracks but confused by the jeepvideo thing, now it makes sense. Thanks for sharing! Joel

Very nice... Of course, my 78 wouldn't perform like that, but it was a nice taste. Thank You.
I bought my 928, drove it 20 mi home, put maybe 10 mi on it, and it's been in the shop ever since. But it's coming along.

Dennis K,
Good quality on the video clips. I downloaded about 100 meg and it went fast! A good server is hard to find. I have one $16 per month, 600 meg of disc space, 35 gig of transfer per month.
I taped some of Rich at the track last week. One set back was camera vibration.
1. What type of camera is used to record and what did you do to damper camera vibration?
2. How did you get the HUD for the video?
Was it real time data that was mixed into the camera, or was it later edited in using computer digital editing?
3. How did you meter the gas or brakes in the HUD and RPM?
Thanks.

You are the poster-child as to why the PPI is so important...

Thanks for posting / hosting those, if I ever go to the tracks outwest I'll have something to study.....
Great videos the car sounds incredible and looks like it runs quite strong.

Could I have driven it more? Absolutely. Did I want to? Well, no. The timing belt had to be replaced, since to the best of my ability to tell it's the one that came with the car 26 years and 62,000 miles ago. Also I'm not taking a chance with the aluminum ball joints. They get replaced as soon as humanly possible.
So, I went into this with eyes wide open and no surprises yet. I knew that if I didn't grab the car, someone would come along later in the day and snap it up. I should have my website posted by tonight, if you want a few more of the gory details.

Glad you guys liked the show. For those who are curious, here's the setup for the camera and telemetry.
The camera is a Sony DCR-PC101 miniDV with a 0.6x wide-angle lens on it. It's mounted on a I/O Port Racing camera mount attached to the rollbar. This mount allows more flex & movement than I'd like, but the camera's image stabilization is pretty good at compensating for it.
The data is overlaid onto the video after the fact and requires a few things to work. First, I have a Race Technology DL90 datalogger (http://www.race-technology.com) which stores all the data during a session. Then I download the video from the camera's firewire port onto the laptop. Then I combine the raw data with the video using the ApexViz software (http://www.apexviz.com). This software was just introduced a few weeks ago and is still in beta. It's buggy, but there have been a couple updates that I haven't tested yet.
I took your advice! I'm still working on it, but it feels right.
