Tested my old plug wires...found it.
Ive had a grumbly rough running from a dead stop for a few seconds, and under load esp at highway speeds.
Here are the per wire ohm readings:
1 1798
2 1797
3 1775
4 1781
5 1796
6 1790
7 - Tested as a separate wire end plug end, the end was 885, and the wire was 1564. Lots of green and corrosion in the end where the crimped wire end remained.
8 1779
coilR 881
coilL 882
Went to unscrew the ends to take a peek, and the plug end of 7 just 'came out'.
The plugs looked normal when GB and I looked at them at Sharkfest (issue has been around a while)..and it was green and ugly. So that spark was doing extra work, and was "weak"..
And that's what over time, ate up my OEM cats, and why I had to buy new ones to get past smog.
It was doing that, that made me dig into this over the last while, to wonder why.
They were original wires best I can tell...and everything is "better" about the car, as would be expected after such a result.
Will be on the dyno again mid March, so I can track this result as Ive done all others.

If you own a 928 and aren't well endowed financially, a good DMM should probably live in your tool collection at home. I have one of those giveaway Harbor-Freight DMMs in the riding toolbag, JIC.

In my teenage years I worked in a small local auto parts store for a while, after school and on Saturdays. Folks would come in with ignition issues, and buy a new coil when they couldn't figure out the bad condenser. Then they'd try to return the coil as defective when it didn't solve the problem. I rigged a battery and an old distributor to demo coil functions. For insistent customers, I'd show them that the new coil is fine, and would do the same with their old coil if they brought it. For those non-believers, I'd recommend that they put the business end of the coil wire in their mouth and that they then spin the distributor themselves. Nobody would do it.
