Might help some if you tell us what you know about the car's history.
If the poor thing can only do 90 mph then you have about 5 cylinders worth of power missing- a somewhat serious state of affairs but that does not necessarily mean you have a problem that is not relatively easy to resolve providing you throw enough $$$'s at the problem. It could also be a very serious problem[s] but no point in speculating when we know absolutely squat about the car. .

Maybe that sound of air rushing into the engine is coming from intake manifold side plates that the bolts have backed out of and are letting unmetered air into the engine during acceleration.
Don't ask me how I know what that sounds like. Also don't ask if the engine ate half of a intake manifold side plate seal.
Either one or both of these things will greatly deteriorate acceleration.

please post pictures of the engine in your car,
this will give us an idea of the engines condition,
and where you should focus your energy

Take a casual look at the ignition protection relay, on the support bracket for the engine controllers. Pop the carpet cover off the controllers and fold it out of the way. Drive the car some, then stop with the engine still running. Look for a red or green LED illuminated in that relay, telling us that four cylinders have shut down thanks to a misfire or other problem. If you see one of those LEDs, come on back for more diagnostic advice an a list of common causes of that relay protecting the engine and the catalytic converters from fire.

Or at 88 you're energizing the flux capacitor and getting ready to time warp
Sorry, couldn't resist.
