There are now three transmissions being built for me. Each will have a little different parts and a little different methods. Two will get cryo, all three micropolish, some have new gears, some have checked used gears, etc. Just trying out stuff. 2/3 of the gears I own are not in Burlington, Mass... I should go and say hello to them.

One out of three trannies got some oil squirter holes today. The geometry of the original idea of going thru the lid didn’t quite work out, so holes thru the case then.

Two comments,
I have a good used 86 LSD in my shop which should work for you.
Second, for maximum heat extraction and longevity the oil spray is normally sprayed at the exit side of the meshing gears.
It should never be sprayed into the meshing surfaces as the liquid will push the gears apart reducing their engagement.

how does a factory GTS 5 speed cool the gearbox?

Oil is typically sprayed into the gear mesh from a spray bar. The spray bar extends across the width of the gears and is fitted with small nozzles that are used to create small oil jets that spray oil into the mesh. Based on a survey of several gear manufacturers, there is no universal agreement on whether oil should be sprayed into the in-mesh, the out-mesh, or both.

Interesting Ake,
when I was last researching it I found that spraying the oil on the out-mesh had the most benefits. Gears are at their hottest point, no oil pushing the gears apart etc.
I also found loads of people who had the gears push apart a little causing a reduced tooth contact which then resulted in teeth shearing off.
On a street car, I doubt that this would ever be seen. But on a track car where the box will reach higher temps and have more thermal expansion is where I would expect to see the big problems.

In terms of temperature management, I think there are two things that matter. First, is the oil causing more losses and therefore more heat. Second, how much heat can does the oil remove from the gears. My thinking is that having the oil on the gears thru the heat producing contact phase must heat the oil more, and therefore remove more heat..
Just as a clarification: I'm not pretending to know the answer what's the best oil spray spot. If I thought I'd know, I'd say that. But my honest best guess opinion, whether it's correct or not, is that spraying into the mesh in a car transmission is usually better.

Stupidly busy...
The day job has kept me pretty busy since the stock market started doing its yo-yo action in October.
Based on casual browsing of the threads, it appears that not a whole lot has changed in here while I’ve been working! ;-)
In any case, if any of you G28.13 owners are nursing losses after selling your stock and going short in December, having done the opposite I can pay you good money for your transmission! ;-) I am also interested in good condition non-LSD boxes as long as they are G28.13s with those turbo-friendly gear ratios.
For some reason my inbox here is full, so sellers please email me (if you’ve got the hookup) or respond to this thread.
