Recreating rear structure
I have recreated the rear structure in a car that had it removed for other reasons.
So far, I have this:
I have had this car for a long time. Out of the 18 928s I have owned, this is the one that received the most identities and work. It is only fitting that it would go to my son.
Some Historical Context:

(Photobucket has been difficult to work with, and this is where most of my pics are, from the first decade of the millenium.
It previously looked like this:

Its out of order because the mobile version sucks. But you get it.

Yeah, you're showing something pretty big on the Bell Curve of 928 owners' levels of hands-on executing a task...was the trunk rotted? Are there no replacement sheet metal parts available? Battery box rotted?

This project has evolved and transformed over the years but I think he at one time was planning on fitting a fuel cell and wished to also eliminate the weight of the battery box. Now as a street car having the stock tank and sending unit is far more user friendly.

A strategically timed trip to Mark's (when the next stripped shell is headed to the recycler) with a sawzall should yield the needed bits to have it welded in. Since it started as a '78 you can 'upgrade' to an integrated battery box.

Sorry, lost track of this thread, and with the lack of chronological pictures, I should sit at a computer and redo it.
Yes, I cut out the rear floor previously and installed a fuel cell with a metal frame and brackets for BIG fuel pumps. All of that is gone now, and I am basically taking the car back to stock. But it was a 78, and I have modified the areas that the original sheet metal would sit.
So what I have done so far is to create a very strong main beam that has the small off-shoot for the 4th bolt hole for the tank straps. That part is done now. And I have added sheet metal (SS) - to protect that area if there is any sort of "push" from the back.
Now I have to create an area for the battery box, and then finally cover it all over like it would normally look. I want to try and do it to add more area under the car on the driver's side for better exhaust space and piping, but that is not primary. Just a good stockish place for the battery.
And yes, the 16 year old is getting this car, but he has to put it together.

Removed for a different idea that, while executed, did not get used. And I realized, it would be better if it was stock for its (now) intended purpose.
