Default It's lives!!!! Sort of

Hey folks.

So, I've been working away at my 79 fuel system and finally got everything buttoned up to attempt to start it. New fuel pump comes on strong and it takes no time at all for the car to fire up. But after a second it dies. The fuel pump instructions say air in the lines will cause it to die but I've tried to start it enough now I think the air is out. Maybe. It acts like a sensor or something is shutting it down as soon as it fires up. Any suggestions which area to tackle next?

Thanks

PS. I attached a picture of my messy engine bay. Maybe someone will notice something.

Starting right up from cranking can all be due to the cold start valve being working, however, it doesn't really show full operation of rest of the fuel system, ie: WUR/FD and each individual CIS injectors.

Have you checked the CIS injectors?

Each individual injector at the cylinder or the section under the air filter? The only way so far I know fuel is getting to one of the cylinders was that it had a slight leak, which I nipped up. I haven't pulled any of the injectors yet. This is very foreign to me so I'm learning as I go.

Does the pump keep running when it dies? Fuel pump relay may not be getting a signal, ignition shuts down. Swap another or r/r it a few times to clean the contacts a bit.

The fuel pump does stay running when it dies.

Might be a little lean. Jump the fuel pump relay with key off, then adjust mixture screw CW until you can just here fuel flowing at the FD then back off a bit. see if that will get her going. Also by the way way, whats with the extra wires going to the coil?

Sorry, I'm a newbie. FD is? I'll read the post on how to jump the fuel pump relay.

So I'm not sure what the wires are that head towards the coil. They originate by the wipers and end near the coil and have a relay attached to them. They are not attached to the coil at all. They don't look stock to me unless someone was fiddling around.

Have you read the new visitor sticky yet? If not highly suggest you read, theres-lot's of great info!! Also would suggest you read all you can on the CIS injection systems on these cars. Do a search and you will find all kinds of info that you will really need. Good luck on getting it running. I would also trace down all the extra wires to determine what they are for, could be some form of anti theft device. I also noticed some extra wires on the passenger side. If you haven't already, get the Jim Moorehouse workshop manuals on CD. I believe you can get them from Roger at 928'sRs. They also contain wiring diagrams.
