It is mounted on the passenger side shelf close to the tunnel. Pressing the symbol releases it. Spring loaded arms grip the cup. Pushing back the centre locks it in the closed position

Velcro on UCs is a good idea. Simple. (Have to buy another pair - the ones I ordered for my 928 ended up in my truck.)

I still intend to design a cupholder to fit in place of the coin holder(s)...then I can retire.

Which would make it really convenient if someone could design a cup holder to fit in those slots.
(I haven't been able to, yet...except via Photoshop.)

From this previous animation, I looked into a nice and simple way to do that when I was doing my build and eventually decided it was too much work for too little reward. The major problems were making it slidable while still being stable once all the way out, the angle it had to come out on wasn't truly horizontal without quite a bit of modification to the door and panel, and couldn't come up with a really good way to mount it where it would hold a Yeti cup full of coffee without at some point dumping it all over the floor and my leg.

I went with simple, elegant engineering on this one instead and with the velcro, it's easily removable if you need to adjust it's position but hangs on very securely when installed - you kind of squish and wiggle it around during install to grab enough fibers for a secure fit.
