Coin Holder Trivia
I was repairing the coin holder from one of my 82 Weissachs. I wanted to check if the early coin holder fitted the later cars or vice versa.
928 555 075 02 Coin Holder 77 to 86 (may not have been fitted to some early cars)
928 555 075 05 Coin Holder 87 to 95
The early coin holder came with two brackets attached to the plastic caps as per the picture and these located the coin holder in the door card.
The later coin holder comes without the brackets but needs four separate clips that slide of the edge of the aperture in the door card and retain the coin holder in place.
The early coin holder has been NLA for some time but the later one is readily available as are the four clips.
Conclusion - the later coin holder is identical in size to the early variant and fits in place on the early cars with the addition of the four clips.
928 555 075 05 Later Coin Holder = $61.69
999 591 796 02 Clips x 4 = $2.90 each

Good info!
I remember when the 928 coin holder held enough change for a road trip through Illinois.
Now it's probably not enough for the first toll entering the state.

Interesting Roger! I have not seen a coin holder on a '78... not to say some didn't have them.
IIRC one of my panels from a 78 had the marks where you could push out the rectangle to allow the coin holder to fit.

There were many ROW cars made without it in all MY's.

That would make sense why I haven't seem any on '78. Mine are/were all Euros.
I've seen that impression on the inside of the door panel too, Roger.

Some ROW's have it and some don't. It was possibly option M423 Cassette container and coin box. Or it could have had separate option number for just coin box as some seem to have cassette holders on center console box but no coin thing in door.

I thought the sizes correspond to Deutschmarks and Pfennigs?
This may be obvious, but both door panels have removable panels for coin holders.
Which would make it really convenient if someone could design a cup holder to fit in those slots.
(I haven't been able to, yet...except via Photoshop.)

Its interesting that German and ROW PET don't even give part number for it even though its visible in picture as item 34. I have seen them in some ROW cars. In all 2807 ROW '80-81 and 91-95 has M423 option. Most GTS has it but for example both of mine don't.

Maybe Jerry will make a new one without the dime and nickle slots and replace with the first 2 rows?
