These are the times when you treasure our 928-centric parts purveyors. At a time when it's too easy to maintain a virtual store front, most vendors will order pieces for you rather than stock and ship them. No factory support means those guys are out of business until the strike is over. Our favorite folks here can keep going for a while on the stock they maintain, plus their sources that aren't the Porsche factory.

Meanwhile... The company is still feeling the hurt from the dieselgate episode; adding in the losses that come with any extended work stoppage makes financial recovery that much longer. Remember when Porsche was overleveraging to gain control of Volkswagen? I guess that Porsche still shares some of the pain from dieselgate, but not nearly to the extent that their new godparents have.

As I read it, what they're referring to in that article is the right to reduce their working week to 28 hours temporarily for up to 2 years to share in the parenting of young children or care of aged parents, and get some monetary assistance when they do. Maternity leave, paid parental leave already exists here to a degree - but mainly in the public sector.

German family policy took a shift in 2007 when a so-called “educational” benefit mainly aimed at mothers was replaced with a “parental benefit” that can be shared between the mother and father of a child.Under the union proposals, workers who opt for a 28-hour week in order to take care of young children or ageing parents would get an additional allowance of €200 per month. Those who want to take a break from doing shift work with a high health risk would be compensated with €750 per year. .....................
............... “We want employers to recognise that traditional gender roles in modern families are changing, and we want workers to have the chance to do work that is important to society,” a union spokesperson said. “In the past, demands for more flexibility has come at the cost of workers. We want to flick a switch so that flexible working also benefits workers.”
35 hour week and 4 weeks paid leave a year is pretty common here too ..... but not if you're self employed ... you carry the load for everyone else because you just love working for nothing for some of the year

Reuters says it also includes Bosch - and that's not good either.

35 hours is a three day week, for me.

If it got cut to 28, I'd be out of the shop before noon on Wednesday.

When can I start?
