Question Central Warning Light on hard cornering

I was aceing this Jeep Cherokee (I know, shooting fish in a barrel) out on an inside corner of a two lane turn. I was in second gear and pulling about 8 Gs sideways (really! ) with the tach winding through 5500 RPM when wham, the central warning light kicked on. I figured that I just sloshed the wiper fluid or oil level below the level switch with the move, but the odd thing is that the CD that was playing cut out too.

The radio/cd is hooked up to bus 30, so that means the car lost power for a second. The CD restarted in about one scond and I punched the acknowledge button and everything ran fine from there fine.

The question is, what happened? When the CWS gets triggered does it shut off the radio to get my attention?

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

8g's will cause the relays to open up when turning right. Just pull about 6g's on rights. Left turns, 8 or 9g's should be no problem.

As far as I know the only way to pull 8g's in cornering is by sliding sideways into a mountain. Of course one of the first symptoms of that is that the mirror and exterior paint usually come off fairly rapidly, hopefully followed in short order by the appearance of an ambulance.

0.6 or 0.8g's shouldn't be too hard to pull though.

Naah, at 8g's, the ball joints open momentarily .... breaking the ground loop!

I'd guess the engine oil sloshed to one side and the low oil level sensor tripped the Central Warning.

Have you checked your oil lately?

If you were revving high.......might be a timing belt warning.......any other lights come on? There should be a corresponding light come on for the problem somewhere in the pod, but if you lost power.......hmmmm.

check the grounds, expecaly the main one.

I'm guess and you went around the conor reving it out like that, the body deflected a bit, and one ground or another lost good contact for a moment.

Well maybe I was only pulling 7 Gs.

Thanks for the ideas. The oil is towards the lower mark on the dipstick, so that could have been it. The body deflection is possible. I did clean all the grounds (except the ^%$# one by the taillights) including the main engine ground about 5 months ago, but that would fit the symptoms seen. It is strange they both occured at the same time. It was if the central warning unit inadvertently triggered the CD shut down via some sort of power glitch. I suppose it is also possible (but unlikely) that the CD just lost the plot tryng to track in a hard corner.

Guess I'll have to go try it again and gather more data. Now if I can only find that jeep.......... :-)

the low oil switch only works with the engine OFF , car on level ground ignition switch on , oil less than 6.5 liters .....it does not function when the engine is running . The 1980 does not have a belt tension warning light so that is not the cause . I have thrown my 1980 around on DOT legal race tires up to and beyond the point of adhesion and not experienced any warning lights or loss of power while spinning . You might check your battery hold down and connections perhaps it moved around and shorted out .
