Thumbs up Return of the 928

From the 928UK list:

This weeks Autocar runs a cover story on the new 500bhp V8 928 4 door (with a turbo option at £100k)? Also devotes some space to reflecting on the present 928. Well worth a look.

has a preview on site : http://www.autocarmag.com/

Anyone know where to get this stateside?

Gotto have a subscription. Thanks atb for the heads up. It's great news for us owners! BUT. Four doors? Why? What ever happened to the sports car. I get the feeling these car companies are caving to the family image. Maybe I'm thinking too much again.

Doesn't matter if it has four or nine doors. If Porsche names a new car the 928 it will raise the value of all our cars.

Wishful thinking, IMO. I don't think producing a completely different car with the same name will have any effect on the values of our cars. The market is what it is because it is what it is. I'm happy that I can buy a fantastic car for a reasonable (cheap) price, but these cars are not investments, they are depreciating assets.

Ernest, you and I were thinking the exact same thing. $.
So that makes me cheap, AND greedy. And darn proud of it.

Why?

Because they might make parts for our old cars?

This is great! But it don't look much like a 928 and I wonder what the cost would be? Do you think John D. will sell his 993 to get the new 928?

I think the mere revival of the 928 name will generate interest in our cars, which will affect their values. Whether it's just to stabilize them for a while, slow the decline, or even increase them....who knows?

The price mentioned at current exchange rates is about $175,000 U S dollars ! I doubt that I will be buying one any day soon .........but 200 MPH who cares how many doors , hard to count them when it blows by at that speed .

Anyone here rich enuff to buy a new 928 sedan?

I hope they offer the coupe but hell it looks like a 993 front end to me with 911 back end. Where are my triangle (amityville) windows?

To me a 928 shouldn't be to radical from the GTS. Anyone have more pics of it to study?

Actually, now that I think about it, if it's a really pricey Porsche that really performs, maybe it'll bring back some people to take a second look at the 928 and thus raise its value. Is this thing really going to be produced?

Porsche can be expected to use the "corporate" front end and rear end (911/996/ boxster) so it is recognizable as a "real" Porsche . The Chili pepper is proof that you can reskin a VW platform with a Porsche nose , put in a Porsche turbo motor and it is suddenly worth $100,000 .

Maybe some day we can swap our 928 engine with theirs?
