A supercar should have all that, plus top to bottom leather, lasers, particle beams, missles, air conditioned seats, and head room!!!

I still can't believe they are going to make the 928 again. When are they going to hit the showroom so I can see up in person?

They for a variety of reasons should use the Cayenne engine for any such project . It would also be logical to buy V W Phaeton " bodies " ....AWdrive , 5000 lb built to handle the W-12 420 hp engine already . Have VW assemble the body and interior ( JUST LIKE THE Cayenne) then ship to Porsche for the drive line assembly ....makes a $55,000 Phaeton worth $175,000 ?? VW acknowledged that they do not expect to sell many Phaetons but it moves them upmarket and draws in buyers for their other cars ? Porsche seems quite happy with the Cayenne project . VW would probably like to sell more "Phaeton" bodies to spread develpment costs (highly likely Porsche Design did much of it anyway )

From scanning the net. This v-8 porsche was heard of but its predicted to come out in 2005-6 and some believe it was going to be called a 998.
Anyone with that mag scan and upload NOW, thanks!
I'd like more confirmation this is 'offically' now a 928 project and not more speculation and it gets the 998 number later.

The New Boxster and 911 are due 2004-5 the Cayenne will be "old news" by then so 2005-6 for the new V-8 car ..... what could be coming after that ?? How about a full sized PICKUP truck ? It is a huge market segment ......

Hey, the Mazda RX-8 has 4 doors and it's a damn good sportscar...Everyone was amazed on how the Japs were able to pull this off (they are not exactly known for car design inovations)...So why not have a Porsche sportscar with 4 doors?? It sounds like a great idea to me....
I can only hope that Porsche comes out with a killer motor for this new car right from the start. There's no excuse to have a heavy car (like the original 928 was) with an underpowered motor and playing catch up to the competition...They made the same mistake when the Boxter was introduced but quickly realized what the buyers really wanted....MORE POWER!!
I seriously doubt the "new 928" will be called 928 at all for marketing reasons. Someone said it might be called "998" and that seems like a better name...Most car people don't have much respect for the original 928 so I doubt Porsche will be willing to use the same model number for a brand new car that was killed off development in '95.
Maybe the next issue of Porsche PANORAMA will have info on this new "928".....

The car on the Autocar cover (be it a 998 or 928) looks like it shares headlights and fenders with the Boxster coupe:

So the next 928 is a 4 door sedan with Cayenne engine and Boxster front end!!!
I don't think this is a 928 at all! Just because you throw a V-8 engine in the front and it has a Porsche badge on the hood don't make it a shark! It's certainly done in 928 spirit though.
What I'd like is:
It needs to have pop up headlights and a slantnose front end to stay traditional. I'd like to see vents in the front fenders, and wide rear ends. I'd even do some with 944/924 head lamps to pop up. It has to do 240 mph so 20 years from now when I can afford one. The shark would still kick 2023 ricers *** at a stop light. The car should have 550 hp min, hopefully 6-700 hp.
I can't wait to see what this new '928' is, but I have a feeling it's not the 928 GTS next step in evolution. Man I'm becoming a purist.

I'd heard about this about 8 - 10 months ago, but I had no idea that it was going to be called the 928. how proud does it make you that they're bringing it back under that name?!? I'm quite happy!
While there's undeniable pleasure in watching the values of 928's go up, lets not forget that its 911 owbers who artificially inflate the market so that a carrera 3.2 is worth three times as much as a same year 928S (at least in the UK) hopefully we're above such tactics?!?![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
We do have some great car magazines here in the UK. Autocar has always been good from a facts and figures point if view, and great for folk like us who like detail. Evo is also quite good, if a little pretentious sometimes. Top Gear magazine is alright but the BBC TV series is brilliant - dunno if you US people get it on BBC america though
I hope the new 928 (is that definitely the new designation) stands for everything in essence that the old one did - time will tell.

Unfortunately automakers always seem to over design cars just when the start to get them right. Any change to the look of the late model 928 would be a disappointment for me.
Anyone agree?

Well guys I'm going to UTI for the Porsche PTAP program then going to Georgia Tech and becoming a Mechanical Engineer for the Engine Development team at Porsche. I might live in Stuttgart for a year or so get accquainted and then let you guys know about the 5.4 Liter Twin turbo 928 motor that will make Corvettes and any Japanese car look like they were going backwards. It'll be a GTS 928 on Steriods...
Now all I have to do is get out of high school. But for non BS remarks, I am going to UTI for the Porsche program and maybe the Audi or VW one to look better when i do make it as an engineer lol.
