Fried connector front of '85 5.0L
Going back into to replace reference sensor and I should replace this crispy critter as well. Can someone please identify what this connector leads to? Thank you!

I think that is the engine side connector for the TPS short harness.
Connector is replaceable.
Roger has Bosch connectors for around $28 and the TPS short harness for around $67.

Specialty shop...understatement.
Roger is one of the premier 928 parts sellers out there. His business, nyet, his life revolves around 928's. ONLY.
Here is his website. Granted, it is a bit sparse, and he admits it. Best way to order parts is via e-mail, or, wait for it...phone call. His staff is top notch and he enjoys talking 928's.

Yep. If its still available, Roger can get it. As well, he has come up with some nifty solutions for NLA parts.
NOTE: This is just a shameless plug for Roger and 928sRUs. I am not affiliated with them, but have spent WAY too much money there.
As well, you need to look into Mark Anderson at 928 International, and Greg Brown at Precision MotorWerks.
Mark built 928 Intl. as a 928 specific used parts business, and grew into new part sales as well. He is the go-to for used 928 parts.

I have bought many used, and new parts from him. As such, I recently purchased a set of rebuilt upper control arms for my 1986.5.
Greg Brown has been an independent Porsche repair mechanic for decades. His shop, Precision MotorWerks, has an enviable reputation as THE West Coast shop to take your 928. As well, he and his wife Mary, have created many products specific to the 928 world.

I have purchased much better replacement fuel and transmission lines from him. Very good stuff.
Point of all the above, is there is a helluva good network for parts in the 928 world. Those three are just the ones off the top of my head. There are numerous small cottage businesses that cater to the 928 as well. Use Rennlist 928 to find them.

Definitely the short harness. I just did this on my early 86, you will want to be careful as the plastic has probably become brittle. Looking at the fuel line you may want to consider replacing your rubber lines, that looks pretty original.

As for your crunchy connector, go here:

That will give you an idea what it is.
Also, here are some photos dealing with replacing the connector:

An extension for the TPS cable. Leave it to the Porsche engineers to come up with a solution for using parts that don't fit later models. I've got a short list for Roger ready to call in!
