Default new to me 84 euro

Thought I'd post and introduce myself as I try to do my own work and suspect I'll need some help from this group at some point.

84 euro (german), 68K miles, some good options: non-sunroof, 5-sp, LSD, Wider rear track, model designation delete, sports shocks, short final drive.

Prior owner bought it from an estate sale non-running. Fuel system flushed/rebuilt injectors/fuel pump - and got it running. Drove down from Vancouver to Sacramento on a weekend with a uhaul and picked it up.

Have had to do a few things to get it road worthy and pass import inspection - not a big deal, so far:

Imported in to Canada June 26, 2017

67820 miles

for inspection:
oil change mobil 1 20w50 filter change
trans fluid redline 75-90ns
flushed/replaced coolant
front suspension ball joint boots x2 each side
steering rack boot
exhaust hangers
torqued cam cover
fixed winshield washer motor
head light washer motor
cleaned washer tank/removed metal spout
replaced fuel sender
fixed battery carrier
cleaned ground wires
temporary daytime running lights
new right 8” euro head light
new marker light rear right
new left driving light lens
(lens protection film applied to all lights)
radio delete, hooked up aftermarket amp to stock speakers and blue tooth dongle for tunes.
Got interior lights, passenger rear hatch release working
Replace power steering reservoir line
Replaced Oil breather hose line
New brake rotors x4
New brake pads
Replaced spark plugs
Replaced spark plug wires (kept rubber numbers and reattached!)
Fixed pass door switch (grounds when door open)
Replaced rear hatch latch receiver liner
Had dent in front fender and rocker panel fixed

Planning on starting on TB/WP and Cam shaft O-rings this weekend.

Oh yeah, not happy at all with the exhaust / cats they put in when the car was federalized in 1984. Plan to remove and build something better.

Then it will be a good driver. Some pics:

some pics of work I've done, not in any specific order. Can't really add to all the great write ups. Only thing I can think of that I didn't read about is for putting on the ball joint boots, easiest was to use a loop of haywire to manipulate and put on the spring clips (see pic).
The multiple gear pumps for the windshield and headlight washers - they can definitely be easily fixed. Seems they just get jammed by pieces of rust.
When replacing the fuel level sender, don't forget to remove the wire they use to hold the float in place during shipping...

Funny story: the first time I had the car at the inspector's, he took the car out for a driving test and comes walking back to the shop saying the car stopped running ("It had been running fine!" I say to him) ...
We had to push the car back to the shop and the inspector/mechanic spent some time trying to figure out why it wasn't running. Had spark/fuel pump was running. Eventually he turns to me and said he didn't know why the car wouldn't start. (could it be the timing belt??)
I have a master Porsche mechanic that I call when I'm in trouble who always helps me out. I give him a call and he drives right over (Sat). Looks at the car, and literally in 3mins figures out what's wrong - checks spark then undoes the fuel rail, "there's a lot of air, how much fuel do you have" the inspector/mechanic and I say 1/2 tank. The Porsche mechanic says the fuel sender is bad, the car's out of gas!! Fill it up with gas and it starts right up.

Welcome! Though you are no stranger to sweet rides. Great car list. Your '84 euro looks great and as you may know is near the top of the list of all 928 models ever made in terms of power to weight.

Funny story about the bad fuel sender. Mine looked very similar. If you havent already, based on the condition of that old sender, you should replace the fuel strainer and filter and think about having the injectors sent out for cleaning. Also replace all the flammable rubber fuel lines and ps hoses. Too many unfortunate fires attributed to 30+ year old rubber.

Whats up with the radio cover? Are you using something else for music? There are a bunch of guys on here who will pay a pretty penny for that Moterey unit if you are no longer using it.

Look forward to seeing more of your car!

Very nice car. IIRC, has the previous owner replaced/fixed the passenger side front fender? The car is very special and congrats on the buy!

Strainer/filter/pump replaced and injectors rebuilt.
The radio is a KOLN SQ23 - 'King' for radios in it's time. It only works intermittently so pulled it and will get it fixed - not many places fixes these as you probably know and will be expensive.
For music I've hooked up a blue tooth dongle and aftermarket amp to the stock speakers.

Nope, just had the work done on the fender and got it back yesterday from the body shop. Looks great.

Doing the tb/wp, cam seals, tensioner service, replacing rollers, distributor belt, caps/rotors. Got everything done, tb is on, just need to put the tb cover and accessory belts on. I thought I'd share some pics. Can't really add anything to the previous write ups, only thing extra I had to do was to remove the starter motor to get the clutch slave off as the starter got in the way of the hard lines. I marked the cam sprockets and belt/counted the teeth as the marks on the sprockets are hard to see. Marked the belt and sprockets on the dizzy as well. Don't have to worry about timing for the twin dizzy models so that's pretty easy. Overall pretty painless. I've done timing belts on my previous Ferrari 328, I'd say the 928 was easier.

You have the 'pre-GT, GT' of 928 models. Light, high HP, LSD, 5sp, sport shocks, etc. This is one of those unicorn type cars out there. Sounds like you are treating it well. As mentioned, if you haven't done your soft fuel lines, do them now. Also the PS lines are a source of fires, so check or repl soon. No carbeques.

Agree, don't want a carbeque. Lines look ok but I know appearance from outside doses't mean anything. Will order one of those line kits and replace.

Didn't like the small diameter connectors used when the car was federalized and the euro didn't have cats...
