Can someone check out a car in Bend OR?
Can someone check out an OB from Bend Oregon? My wife won't let me check a car out in Pacific NW while we will be on vacation to visit her parents in Portland next month. However, I have a feeling that the car won't last this long!
It is in "Sisters" next to Bend.
Thanks-Hoi

Hoi,
I do not know if Louie would do a PPI for a "fair consideration" but if he was willing then no one better than him to do such. He is located about 60 miles north of Bend- maybe the vendor would/could take a jolly up there if the example is purportedly in good running nick.
Contact details are on his website www.performance928.com

Hoi, my friend Bruce is over there this week and might be interested in checking it out. He's a member of the PCA over in Bend and has helped me with my 928's and could give you a fair assessment.

Hoi--
PM details and contact info, and I'll take care of it for you. Plus, Sisters is only a couple of excellent mountain-road driving hours from Portland if you want to lay eyeballs on the car yourself. Drive south towards Eugene, then east towards Bend, stop in Sisters. Sisters is a quaint little tourist town, popular walk-through area with lots of interesting shops and regular weekend events. Big quilt show a weekend or two ago, for instance. Would be a great day trip for your whole family. Just sayin...
Local PCA monthly dinner meeting in Bend is this evening. I'll see if I can find Neil there and maybe try and coordinate all the eyes at once.

We had house guests who wanted to go to that show. We left 30 mins before it was scheduled to open, for the normally 20 min ride over to Sisters. An hour and a half later we were only half way there in a traffic crawl, and the passengers were complaining about needing something that starts with "P". So we abandoned that plan and found other fun stuff to do in town here. I was merely the bus driver on that adventure. Apparently, quilting is a lot more popular than, say, 928 restoration. At least based on the number of folks leading the way that morning.

Not mine, but sounds interesting. I gave my '82 to by brother that lives there. He was unable to find anyone competent to work on them in the area. For example, it sat in the shop of some guy with an impressive German accent for 6 months or so waiting for a part he could not find, which Roger and Mark both had in stock the whole time. So, if the PO was not mechanically inclined you may find some deferred maintenance.

I want to publicly thank Bob for his taking the time to see the car and actually gave a very detailed analysis of the car. His forwarded info was actually in a professional PPI format. Amazing for someone to spend the time to help an almost complete stranger across the continent due to our shared love of the car and it's community.
Again, I want to give a huge thanks to Bob.
He is a true gentleman!

PS-I will pass on the car.

For others watching at home, the "pro" PPI is based on a spreadsheet adapted from one shared here in the forum. The seller, a "car guy" but not specifically a Porsche fan, acquired the car as part of an estate-sale lot that included car he wanted. He started off trying to sell me the car, but quickly strted following me around as I started at the top of the PPI "checklist" and worked my way through it. The start and drive were the last things we did, followed by pictures to support comments in the description. It's a cosmetic PPI, the "first filter" before committing to a full mechanical inspection.
Since Hoi has passed on the car, the PPI and pictures are available to anyone else who might be seriously interested in the car. It's priced around $4k, and is a valid $4k car. It's a decent and pretty much intact DD candidate with some catch-up maintenance needed. That includes all the rubber stuff. There are some electrical issues most of which will be solved with basic cleaning of grounds and connections. The climate control is not functioning but everything is there. It needs the drivers seat redone, has a headliner issue at the hatch, otherwise quite serviceable with cleaning. Tools are all there, including the spare-bulbs kit. Car has not been abused but it has been neglected. Has a respray in original color that did not include window or trim removal, so as the rubber has shrunk the paint edges are prominent. OK for a casual DD though -- it's 10-20ft paint. Gearbox is good but needs some linkage work and adjustment. Clutch doesn't slip but engages high in the pedal travel. Engine runs well, but has some vacuum-leak symptoms. Power and performance are good. Needs tires due to age and wear. Has plat anodized flats on it now, with some scratching but no bending or lip rash. Has manuals per the seller. It's currently registered.
Again, if anyone is seriously interested I can forward the PPI, description and pics. PM your e-mail and I'll get them off to you.

Here's the link to the craigslist ad with some pictures. I didn't duplicate the seller's pictures, instead focused on things called out in the PPI report.
... OK, link to the ad in the Bend Craigslist is no longer valid.
