What we really want to aspire for
This is was it's all about, right! I mean we really don't want a 944 for all our life! It's a temporary thing for us young dudes....ah....right?

I'm sorry, don't know why the link didn't copy over......but when I was searching "globally" for "exhaust systems" this one was the first thread.

Young guys?
Hell, I'm 54 and I bought it because I couldn't afford a Healey 3 liter and the hardtop would keep out curious crack addicts.
It amazes (and amuses) me that when I was a kid, I had Healeys and could not afford a porsche and now that I'm an oldster, I have a Porsche 'cause I can't afford a Healey.

Man, you "young" guys think it will be easy to move on to the next level once you get older. I am hear to say, enjoy the ol' 944 and don't think the grass is always greener with a "new" performance car. When I was in High School, the 944 was all the rage. All those 80's high profile studs were riding the 944 wagon. So I said some day I will own one. Now I do and I love it.
Keep in mind that the 944 is a great performer that gets good fuel economy, is easy to work on in perspective to "modern"performance cars. It is cheap to register and relatively cheap to insure. I would rather rebuild the 944 than spend my cash on some expensive to buy, own, insure WRX or EVO. Those cars will one day be just another old Mitsu or Subaru...the 944 is always Porsche! Even if the 911 owners don't think so.
Just my opinion

I agree with every thing you guys said - the 944 & 951 were the rage in the 80's. They are still one of the greatest handling cars today, forget the bling bling stuff. I have a 2004 A6TT and a 2000 A4T and I still prefer my 88 944 as my daily driver. Just dropped a turbo in it so it's even more fun!!

First Louisville post I've seen - I lived in Louisville for 17 years. I plan to post pix early next week. I cruised by Anderson Motorworks yesterday and the engine bay and engine are immaculate. John hasn't turned the car over to me yet, but says it's not going to be anything like it was before I brought it in. I pick it up Monday - Christmas comes early.

That's great! Your genre is now able to afford a car that many of us growing up could only aspire for. My 1988 was purchased from an Marine officer that bought it off the showroom in San Diego for (excuse me) $34K in 1988!!! I’m not a financial wiz but that’s some serious PV cost of money these days.
If it’s any consolation when we tore down the motor at 153,247 miles there wasn’t one piece that needed replacement. I almost freaked out for taking it out. The crank, mains, case; rods, pistons were all pristine after that many miles. Granted the previous owner and I replaced the “oril” every 2K. Never used Mobil 1 just off the shelf Wal-mart cheap. That alone is a testament to the German engineering and the robustness of this car. Also I really drove it HARD, not just hard, but HARD I wanted in the top 2 in my class at the PCA's AX and TT’s. It never phased it. Go figure. Let’s see how my new turbo does!!!

The parking lot where I work is full of high performance, fully financed out performance cars. They are a dime a dozen. I can't sneeze without hitting a (place name of current trendy car here.) There is only one mint 1986 951 Turbo at work though, mine.
I am in a position where I could join the crowd of leased and financed out sports cars, but why? My 951 is in great shape and I can always find it in the garage. I can't say the same for the guy who is parked in the row of identical M3s.

I threw my turbo motor in. I'm still working on the project. Nothing big is left but time and weather. WHat I aspire for, is building the BOSS car, I want to take it further with a little modern tech tho. Not an exact replica or anything, but a car that would run with it or better. That is what I dream of! No supra no hondas, no EVOs, no ferraris. Well I do like the Mondail 8 but that's just another thing. After the GTP project, I may move to some other things but for now, I'm all Porsche! I'm sure the GTP project will keep me busy for quite a while.
