Default 944 S2 intake manifold on 944S

I recently fitted the S2 manifold to the S, and i was wondering if many others had done the conversion.

It was a simple mod, with no issues, and the results were impressive.

Using GPS lap timing, before mod the car pulled 0- 100mph in 21s, now she takes just over 18s. tests conducted one week apart, on same stretch of road, similar weather conditions ie not windy, same time of day ie night time..exact same stretch of road used to minimize errors.

I did a 1/4 mile and I had retarded the camshaft about 0.5 deg (i was testing different cam shaft positions) and she ran a 15.50 at 92 mph, i later put the cam timing back to stock and the performance improved (verified by pants dyno, compression went from 180 to 205 psi in all cylinders).

Interesting!
Several people have done the swap and reported it "felt better" but no one has ever produced dyno results.

Was it a simple plug and play with the existing vacuum and TB setup?

I assume you had to change the throttle cable, air box, and all other associated intake parts?

you need the following parts from an S2

intake, throttle body, oil filler neck and dip stick, rubber boot which goes between TB & MAF, aluminium cast adapter which goes between MAF and air filter.

you will need a 90 deg silicon tube to attach to said aluminium adapter, and a K&N air filter.

vacuum line connection is easy and as per S2 manual.
the only pipe you dont need to connect or use is for the heater tubes which heat up the TB
you will use the original throttle cable if you like, like i did i will attach a photo

i am trying to attach a photo but with no luck. anyway i used the original throttle cable, if anyone needs to know how i can send them a photo by email when they get to the stage of performing the mod.

I am surprised not many people have done it, the performance improvement was night and day, infact the original car was fairly weak and sluggish compared to how it is now.

Thread revival! Just picked up an S2 manifold and will be doing the swap soon. Any tips? Do you need to create a harness to extend the TPS to the S2 throttle body? Did you replace vacuum lines or anything else while you had the manifold off? How much different was the vacuum line routing? Can I just unplug from the S manifold and connect to the S2 manifold?

Thanks!

LOL, seriously guys...., a 3 second 1-100 improvement from swapping an intake..?

It'd take roughly +30 bhp to take a 3000 lb car 0-100 in 3 seconds faster.

That;s more horsepower than the difference between the 2.5 liter and the 3.0 16V.

Who knew Porsche didn't have to increase the stroke and bore....., just install the intake.

Right. And how did the compression go up? 180 psi is already more than one would expect from a 10.9:1 cr engine. 205 psi is more than 14:1

Yeah, I forgot that part...an engine can achieve better than 100% volumetric efficiency while it running, but on a crank over...., 25%...?

Uhm, no.

I'm doing a 944S engine and I don't even want to talk about what $$ I'll have into making an additional 30-40hp.

Hello T. What kind of build are you planning?
I’m planning an NA build for my 944S next winter. Im thinking seriously about stroking my stock crank, but may go with a S2 instead.

Past the planning stage....,
1st oversize bore, Alusil cylinder, Wossner pistons, Performance Developments Crankshaft, Molnar rods, 4 piece billet custom grind cams with adjustable central timing gears, PCA legal (no porting) MM cylinder head, tuned header.

S2 + power with the 2.5 16V S platform.

So you getting the bullnose treatment. I think that’s a good plan. What engine management are you running?

Tuned stock Motronic or DTA/FAST E48 with cap and rotor intact per SP3 rules,

Haven't decided yet but I already have a never been used E48 and brand new terminated 944 specific harness.

Had it posted for sale at Pelican months back because it's plug and play for a 944T (what I had it originally configured and purchased it for) but it seems nobody sees/knows the potential of this ECU.
So I might as well beat them with it....

never heard of DTA FAST before but looking it up its got all the same advertised capabilities as VEMS, though its all written in English instead of Hungarian, so that's helpful
