Road Atlanta Track Record - 944Spec - 1:44.113
Just wanted to share an achievement that Ive been chasing for 3 years now. I visit Road Atlanta 3 times a year but have yet found the right conditions to lower the track record. The summer heat robs too much power so that narrows the window to our last event of the year in December or the spring event if the conditions are right. This past week end the conditions were right (sunny and cool). Even the little bit of temperature rise between qualifying at 8:30 in the morning to the race at 12:30 I could tell a power change. The conditions were still good enough to lower it by over half a second.
I was under the track record last December in qualifying, which is my personal best of 1:43.7, but since track records are set during the race, I wasn't able to claim it then due to yellow/red flag conditions. This time I made sure to make the most of the first two flying laps. I think this lap would have been in the high 1:43 range in qualifying that morning due to the added power.

With the PCA event coming up in a week and a good chance of the same kind of conditions at Road Atlanta, they could challenge this time. Kinda depends on what the ambient temps are. Between F1Rocks and a few others registered, there are some fast SP1 cars showing up. I tried my hardest to be able to go, but just dont have it in the funds to get out there for that PCA event. I plan on doing the PCA VIR event in June.
