Default Nankang NS2- R Tyres On test

I'm not sure if these are available in the US ?

But I'm trying them out on the road / street and with a view to also using
them driving to and from Sprint events etc..

They are on the same Theme as a R888 Toyo Street legal Track orientated tyre but they are not as Expensive.

Nankang has in the past produced very cheap street tyres which are hard with a poor performance to of got a Bad reputation.

However quite a few Budget Korean and Chinese Tyres start life with not many fans but in time some get better and many also sponsor and supply one make Racing series and I know Toyo, Kumho and Hankook have done this in the UK all with success.

These NS2- R's are available in 100,120 and 180 Treadwear compounds and I've just fitted 2 on the front this evening, Size: 205/55/16 91W

I'm hoping for some daylight testing and dry weather tomorrow to see how they perform, but the 45 minutes test session in the rain @ 34psi was very good and the immediate difference compared to Michelin was how much lighter the steering effort was, wet cornering grip was also very good but I've not pushed hard enough yet to see how they fair.

I can feel how much stiffer the Sidewalls are compared to Pilot Michelins as the ride is harder over bumps but the plus side is less Squat and diving during acceleration & Braking.

Using the latest tyre technology, the new NS-2R boasts massive performance for both road and track. Available in a growing size range from 13” up to 18”, the NS-2R is not a tyre to be overlooked by anybody looking for high performance rubber.
The NS-2R has been the control tyre for race championships such as the English and Scottish Compact Cup, Tegiwa Civic Cup, M3 Cup and MaX5 championship, the NS-2R is proving very popular in the pits and amongst driving enthusiasts.
Whilst most track tyres only have one thing in mind, the NS-2R hosts an array of talents, not only as a fast tyre, but as a consistently fast tyre, lap after lap come rain or shine. The tread design also gives the driver the confidence to drive to and from a race meeting or track day in dry or often wet conditions without the need to change tyres at the event

Interesting, I haven't heard of these tires. I look forward to your long-term impression of their performance.

It's always good to have more choices especially in the 16" sizes that don't have a ton of selection to begin with.

We have used a lot of them here in Norway, absolutely a great tire for a small amount of money.

I love them

Heard good things about Nankang as well.
Still, went for Conti Sport Contact 5 on the GTS wannabe and Dunlop SP sport 01 on the 931.

interesting. I see I can buy 205/55/16's here in NZ but can't get 225/50's which is a shame. Half the price of R888's as well. I wonder how these would compare to bridgestone RE-11's?

Don't know, we don't have the Re11 Bridgestone's but Re-002 instead?

Bridgestone 's also have a stiff sidewall, Do you know what the treadwear number is on the Re-11's?

A lot of tyres have a Pretty Pattern to market and sell well, but I've never been concerned about what the tread pattern looks like, but what they Feel like on the car!

The Nangs are not the best looking tyre, but so far they are performing well.
It's greasy, cold ish and wet here in he Uk / Wales so we need a couple more months and some dry sun before I can give them a proper Dry test.

At the moment I'm only running the Kangs on the front and Michelin Pilot Sport3
rears (Same size tyre but on an 8" Rim) and this combo is actually quite good as I can evaluate each axle in all conditions, which as the Mich is a softer sidewall and the 205 stretched on a 8" Rim I've eradicated understeer got better turn in and have some power oversteer for the first time, but the tarmac is slippy!

I don't know how the RE-002 and RE-11 compare to each other without using the power of google. I do know that the RE-003 has replaced the -002 as that was fitted to my wifes car 18 mths ago. I did toy with the idea of going to -003's on my 944 as well but the kiwi guys club racing 944's all recommend the RE-11. I just have a feeling the RE-11 is overkill for the road where I'll spend most of my time.

More Mileage and testing on the Kangs, and so far they have not let me down on grip levels.
Excellent in the dry, stiffer through corners as you expect compared to the softer Mich pilot3's but most impressive also good from cold, in the damp and full rain conditions.

The downsides, more Road Noise and Less comfortable (As you expect)

I'm running R888 Toyo Rears and I'd say these take longer to switch on from cold! unyet they are softer ! strange but then the Kangs have more grooves and channels and maybe this assists warm up?

I need to get another pair for the rear now , so I have a matched set of 4.

I have also tested in combination with these Tyres changes, Bilstein B8 Front Inserts, and today a Full Digital Alignment with more front camber now up from 1.25 to 2 degs neg, and 1/2 Deg rear.
