Theubseem to be currently put of stock at only944.com. I'd still love to know the source and part number for #4 that Lauren posted two years ago. Doesn't look like he's been active here in some time.

Kind of spendy... but these look interesting. I like the fact that the optics look “stock.” Holley “Retrobrights.”

I just installed a pair of Sun Pie LED headlights in my 951. Plugged right in and fit with the factory trim ring. Much brighter and whiter than the old sealed beam bulbs. Haven’t gotten it out yet to see in the real world, but so far, I’m impressed. $90 shipped for the pair from Amazon.

I'm definitely looking for an LED upgrade, but so far either don't like the look of the LED items, or the beam pattern/focus is poor. The Wipac are good brand so should be ok. I'd be interested to know what the Holly and Sun Pie are like 'in the real world' (i.e. how well do they light the road, and how good is the main beam and the dip beam). One problem for me is I need right hand drive units which seem to be more limited. The only ones I've not seen reviewed yet are the Wipac and they a bit expensive to try and dislike.

I have the led light kit from only944.com in my 85 and I love it! It works well and looks fantastic!! I only took one picture right after they were installed.

I put the same kit in my 85 RX-7 as well. I had to modify the housings a little but they work great!

Looks like there is a bit of a wait for those at the moment and alas US cars only so I'll have to keep looking for RHD items. They look good from the pictures though and glass lens is a plus.

I was planning to do the lights from Only944, buy as mentioned, there's a wait. I think they're the best choice for looking period correct. Here's a few pics of the Sun Pie units.

A “bit” of a wait? I just checked Kyle’s site (only944). July of 22!

Thanks for the link. I might give these a whirl, but currently in two minds as none of the cars I have had with LED lights seem to be that good. They have been 'bright' and 'white' but they seem to lack proper focus/definition in night time driving.

Worst I had was the Adaptive : LED Headlights with Matrix Function that I spec'd on a new Mini JCW a couple of years ago. Main beam focus (all check as correct by the local Mini dealer) was rubbish (IMO), so much so that I added a pair of 1980's Cibie Oscars to come on with main beam. The difference was huge. They looked slightly yellow compared with the LED headlamps, but the improvement in night vision was excellent.

Of modern OEM lights, the best I have had are the Mercedes Xenons and Bi Xenons, and the BMW i8 (we optioned the Laser lights). On the i8 the LEDs were fair, but when it hit 42mph on main beam and the lasers come on, it was brilliant. I don't want to change only to find I have a modern solution that does not really improve the night time driving experience. Anybody using LEDs or Xenons on a 944 that can give a first hand view?

I did a the HID conversion as outlined in this thread, but it does require modification of some basic 7" rounds, which may or may not be what you feel like doing:
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...or-lights.html

The quality of the cutoff is going to be dictated by the quality of projector you use, FYI. Some folks use OEM projectors from other cars, such as the Nissan Murano (lots of youtube videos on projector modding)

My car:

If you want a more all-inclusive HID BiXenon solution, consider the Dapper Classic 7" V2s (I think they also make them with chrome housings, and all sorts of other combinations/halo options, etc):
https://www.dapperlighting.com/produ...hid5k-r-oe-sb?

In hindsight I might have gone this route instead of the DIY projector mod route (although I probably saved $100+ doing it myself). Since I went with cheaper projectors my cutoff line, although pretty good, isnt as well focused as the more high end projectors you see in luxury cars. I would stay away from the cheap LED headlights you find on amazon, ebay and the like. They almost always have a very poor cutoff and tend to have hotspots and poor light dissipation. This is especially the case when you try to run LED bulbs in halogen housings, like E-codes.

I have been looking into doing the HID conversion. I have OE LED on my 4runner and they are disappointing compared to past HID headlights. One advantage of DIY, compared to buying, is you can customize to your liking. I could see using this surround, blacking everything out except the four lights. Thoughts?

@walfreyydo Thank you for that, good information to know. Yes, I definitely will be avoiding cheap LED solutions as the objective would be improved lighting, not just for looks etc. I definitely would not want to pop LED bulbs into halogen housings - just looking at where the light source is immediately suggests (to me at least) the focal point would be adversely affected.

Dapper lighting looks interesting, but it looks like they might be for LHD only. I'm in the UK, so need RHD. Wipac do some, but I'm not keen on how they look, though I might give them a try anyway (they are out of sight most of the time and when not, all I'll see will be the red hoods
