I just installed a pair of Sun Pie LED headlights in my 951. Plugged right in and fit with the factory trim ring. Much brighter and whiter than the old sealed beam bulbs. Haven’t gotten it out yet to see in the real world, but so far, I’m impressed. $90 shipped for the pair from Amazon.
I'm definitely looking for an LED upgrade, but so far either don't like the look of the LED items, or the beam pattern/focus is poor. The Wipac are good brand so should be ok. I'd be interested to know what the Holly and Sun Pie are like 'in the real world' (i.e. how well do they light the road, and how good is the main beam and the dip beam). One problem for me is I need right hand drive units which seem to be more limited. The only ones I've not seen reviewed yet are the Wipac and they a bit expensive to try and dislike.
I have the led light kit from only944.com in my 85 and I love it! It works well and looks fantastic!! I only took one picture right after they were installed.
I put the same kit in my 85 RX-7 as well. I had to modify the housings a little but they work great!
Looks like there is a bit of a wait for those at the moment and alas US cars only so I'll have to keep looking for RHD items. They look good from the pictures though and glass lens is a plus.
I was planning to do the lights from Only944, buy as mentioned, there's a wait. I think they're the best choice for looking period correct. Here's a few pics of the Sun Pie units.
