Anyone done a rear quarter panel replacement?
I haven't found much on the task. I am pondering the job. I've done it on other cars but never a 944/968. I would appreciate any info on the job. Thanks

All I've seen is the factory shop manual that calls for cuts and welds in specific locations. Seems like most people just opt to shop for a new tub rather than go there...

No, the rest of the car is in good shape and it is rare one. I will check out the factory manual. Thanks

How bad is the damage?
Personally I would find anyway possible to fix it before replacing it. It's amazing what a good body shop can do with a hammer and dolly. Can you even buy that body part from anywhere, or would you be removing it from another vehicle which in itself is a difficult task.

My google fu is failing right now, but there's a detailed thread somewhere with good pictures. I believe it was someone replacing 924 rear quarters with 944. Might have been on 924board.org, or maybe pelican.

I'll have to look for that thread. The rear of the car was hit hard and there is no way the quarter will come back. I have a donor car with all the parts I need in MA. I will have to drill out all the spot welds on the donor piece and again on my car. Been there. Done that. Thanks

My body shop was able to order a brand new 1/4 panel from Porsche in 2010 when my car got hit, hopefully that's still true in 2017.

So I simply cut a rear quarter panel out of a junkyard body, removed the old one and welded everything together. It wasn't without effort, but it was worth the trouble. I simply couldn't let my good old 944 die, due to my fault.

I made here and on the B-Pillar and on the sills also, an overlap joint by means of my edge setter. It took some time and a lot of trying until everything matched as it should. Finally I managed it, that the entire panel could slide into the correct position and kept there without tension.
As soon as the tin joints fit perfectly, I did all across the panel some point welding to stitch it together without tension.
Apart from that, the welding around the taillight was pretty complex too.
