Default Heated seats - how to fix?

I searched the archinves - but there's tragically little on this topic.

With the cooler weather - getting the heated seats working properly is moving up the fix-it list.

Symptoms:

If I install the heated seats fuse - the drivers seat heats up nicley - too nicely! It never shuts off - the swith doesn't turn it off and the potentiometer doesn't appear to adjust the setting. Frankly - I just about burned my *** off! They are REALLY warm seats!

The passenger seat doesn't warm up at all - even though it's got the same switch and pot.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

RK

I do A LOT of driving in my car and WOULD love to have heated seats with the cooler weather coming. Is it possible to put them in the car? I know it would require new seats but I have thought of putting new seats in anyways, what would fit and how would I go about installing the heated part? I have a '86 944 Turbo, is there a way I can plug it into the car some where using the car fuses or anything? If ANYONE has done this or have information on it please send me a private message, thank you.

Heated seats = more weight.

Now from physics, we know that

Force = Mass * Acceleration

now, if we do some algebra we get

Acceleration = Force/Mass

So, if we increase force (or even keep it the same) and decrease the mass being acelerated, we go faster!!

Now, to me, Faster = better.

So, heated seats are just not my style.

Agreed - to go faster - add lightness - that's why my rally cars have NOTHING in them that doesn't make them faster or safer.

But my road car already HAS heated seats - I just want 'em to work.

Anyone know how?

There is a pretty extensive section on heated seats somewhere in the Factory Manuals. As far as installing them, you would need to fit heating elements inside the bench and backrest (I'm sure you could get aftermarket) and switches that were compatible with the seat power switch harness. Factory switches would be the best, I think.

As far as the switches go, my 951 has heated seats and one of the 3 switches on the seat switch panel regulates them. If your switch panels on your seats can accommodate another switch, I believe you could install them.

The heated seats are a serial circuit (two elements if I remember right: back and butt), one goes bad and it's crap, the relays are under the seat. If you feel like breaking your neck you can see the relays, you can also hear then click if you get down low and listen. Mine work sometimes, i think I have an open in one of the heating elements.

What would I have to do to get heated seats? Where would I have to go to get them?

I have a pair of 968 seats, black partial leather,4 way adjustable both driver and passenger, both heated, in the new 993 style upholstery I intend to put up for sale. I have decided I want to go with the 993 sport seat option. They will not be cheap, as I have over 1000.00 in the pair, but they are mint. There is one wear spot the size of dime on the drivers outer bolster. The leather is is very supple and soft like one out of new car. If someone is seriously interested I could snap some pics and email them to them.

James
