As you may know, Ive been suffering broken belt tensioners. It turns out my motor mounts were shot, but also my AC compressor mounting eyelet is sheared off at the bolt. My AC didnt work but I know that it spun freely. When I cracked the lines, There was pressure on the line but definitely not a full charge. I wouldnt mind having cold air, but its not a necessary requirement especially since this car is intended to be budget DD and occasional AXer.
I read this thread where you just buy a short belt and seems like the cheapest solution. How is it working for everyone?
I am interested in fabbing a bracket from a VW which may be a cheap solution that this spec site talked about.
I saw the AC delete brackets from lindsey but cant visualize how that would work. I am guessing this may be a solution for late cars. Can someone confirm?
I guess I can also weld the housing, but the compressor may be bad? I could buy a rebuilt compressor and dryer (denso) is what is in it. But that option is very expensive and Im not sure the car warrants it at this point. I guess if you buy a compressor, you might as do the R134 conversion why you are at it?
Any other ideas? If I delete the compressor, I would leave the lines and everything else in to be able to retrofit in the future if Im lucky to come across a compressor.
TIA, tj

Doug: Thanks for your help and guidance. I think Ill do the belt mod just to get the car out of the garage and buy time to source a compressor.

The AC delete bracket moves the alternator down to the AC compressor's location. This way the tensioning link can still be used (with the shorter belt).

I have a spare used early 944 compressor you can have for free, in Poway.
I don't think it is "good" internally but it will bolt up to your bracket and give you belt tension.
I'll trade you for your "bad" one...I just need one for mock-up purposes.
