Default Do 944s and Champagne go together?

First off, I don't want to offend anyone or bash this color. Just having a hard time deciding how I feel about it.

The color is Linen Grey Metallic (LM1U), which the common-folk would call a light "champagne".
Consider it's the year 2016, and most people have grown tired of champagne and other silvery-colored cars.
Obviously it's never going to be as exciting and eye-catching as Guards Red.
[But that could also make for a good 'sleeper' on the street...]

In spite of that, does this color "work" for the 944? Is it classy or elegant in some way?
Or, does it just make the 944 look like another bland commuter car?

Considering it was only used '89-90, is it considered 'rare' or desirable?
Rare as in, "I love it! I wish there were more of them!"?
Or, rare as in, "I"m glad there weren't more of them"?

Opinions wanted! From both LM1U and non-LM1U owners (but please be respectful)

Internet pics for reference (fine example):

I think it looks very nice. Not dated at all. The world has too many red and black 944's.

I'm not a fan of this color in general but i think it works well on the 944.

This is a great color on the 944.

I don't think the color is going to make the car any more or less desirable than any other. It looks nice and suits the car well, plus it doesn't look dated like a darker tan would. The problem is that it sounds like you don't like it, and that is the most important opinion.

Since I'm a big fan of Zermatt Silver, I'm biased, but this color looks nice too. 944s look good in pretty much any color.

Interesting topic to me. I have a 63 Jag Etype that was originally painted Opalescent Golden Sand. Now that doesn't sound anything like Linen Grey Metallic but from your pictures, my Jag color is in the same ballpark. And I am going to say that originally I wasn't very excited about the color but it has grown on me. Also, web based photos don't really do justice to how the metallic elements (Opalescent in Jag Speak) really make it pop in the sunlight. Its an original color, symbolic of the late 80's (or the 60s in my case). And yes, I'm tired of red, silver, and black. So I like!

Guys, lots of great honest comments here, thank you! Very very helpful, I appreciate it.

Admittedly it would not be my first choice (IR/GR would) but I was okay with it at first.
The problem was more so that my wife doesn't like it. Or rather that she strongly preferred red as well. That, and the fact that we had a s***box '99 Sentra aka 'appliance' practically the same color, had me wrestling with it.

But I read to her all of these comments, and she's coming around.

I completely agree. Seems to keeps it a bit fresher than a darker shade would, I think.

I'm feeling the same way.
'Opalescent Golden Sand' has a nice sound to it.

My perceived benefits of Linen Grey Metallic:
  • The unassuming/sleeper quality of it. It's not likely to attract much attention until it eats you at a stoplight.
  • More importantly, it shouldn't attract the same unwanted attention from law enforcement that 'Arrest-Me Red' does. Though I do love me some Guards Red... Oh and Zermatt Silver is great too!
  • I do think contrasting black trim/accents look really sharp on it
  • Uncommon color for 951 ('89 only in US)
  • From 5+ feet away, it's never dirty.

So in case anyone is wondering if I'm still conflicted over this paint color...
A deal was struck, and I picked it up today.
My first 951!

P.S. - Just to clarify, the car pictured above is not 'mine' - that car looks perfect.
In person the paint on mine still looks a little darker than the pics above, but it's also pretty dirty... I need to clay & mop it, and then we'll see.
