So this thread dies for 4 years and then someone brings it back... it died for over a month and someone brings it back with something off-topic.

Go team!

Oh... and to stay on topic... i was 19 when i bought my 1985 944, sold that when i was 23 and replaced it with a 1986 944 turbo.

I WILL NEVER BUY A N/A 944 EVER AGAIN! They suck *** and are too friggin slow. If i wanted a faster car i'd go buy a Nissan 240sx :-P

I've never had any issues with people messing with my cars, i have heard of kids messing with other kids cars though at the high schools. so if you're 16 and drive a porsche, you're going to get messed with because... who bought the car?

16 years old and you must work REALLY hard huh? Yeah, at school... a job? hahaha... right. I doubt many 16 year olds have money just hanging around that they saved up from doing chores around the house. Chances are they were lent the money and they do not own the car outright. It's like taking out a loan... the car isnt yours untill you pay off what you owe completely.

But anyways, screw 944s.... go get a 951.

no, the turbo lag isnt bad if you know how to deal with it. 944's are all lag and no turbo :-P

I admit n/a's are slow.. but they're still plenty fun, I think you may have a problem knowing how to drive.

And I'm 17, and bought mine myself, the only help I had was $800 from my grandpa a couple of years ago. These cars are pretty cheap, and if you really want one and save... its not hard. Down hur in tha sounth, der's plenty of gewd payin' jobs for the youngster's.

most kids at my school drive newer trucks... 2001 dodges, and 2001 chevs... there are tons of truck because of the oilfield and everywhere you look there at help wanted signs... macdonalds has a starting wage of 11 dollars an hour here, and its child labour laws are relaxed saying 12 year olds can work at burger joints and such... so it is easy to afford a vehical that costs 8 grand if you know how to save...

V2 works at a CVS as a cashier, makes $8.10 an hour, and pays back his parents $100 out of every weekly paycheck.

They loaned me 6 grand to repair the car after I bought it.

6 grand? Holy **** dude!

I work at Hallmark Cards. I put **** in a box all night. I move out close to 16 skids a night. 12 boxes on a skid. 72 rolls of wrapping paper in a box. 864 rolls on a skid. Do the math. The boxes weigh anywhere from 40-60lbs, so don't tell me I'm not busting my ***. I work 11:30pm-8:00am and have to work tonight. Make 10.51 an hour...double what 90% of the kids my age make. I have grown men trying to support a family that make less then me, so don't say that's not good money for a 17 year old kid. On my sunday (go in saturday at 11:30pm), I can make $21.02 an hour.

Don't speak unless you know of what I'm doing. I'm sure you don't have to hump boxes all night!

Next time you buy wrapping paper and it's Hallmark (in the next couple months, even at x-mas time) there's a DAMN good chance I have handle the roll you are buying wherever you are located. We are the only plant that runs gift wrap and there's only 7 machines running it. So tell your wife to thank me, would you?

Seen this thread bouncing around.
23 now, had S2 since 20. 924S before that since 17.
Always thought it was funny.
924S had 2.5 944 engine, now S2 has "similar" 3.0 968 engine.
One up each time.
Next will be a 968 with a... damn.

Also, who cares if my parents floated me a loan to get the car? How did you pay for your living establishment? Surely you didn't drop cash for it.

But what do I know, I'm just some kid...

I am pretty sure the 968 hatch is the same (I think). I have seen an actual 968 spoiler on a 944, or so the owner claimed. You can get a replica spoiler from http://www.essentialstyling.com/968_rear_spoilers.htm , but if you are US bound, the shipping is about $100.

My first 944 was an 84. It had 63,500 mi and my uncle paid $6500- he thought it was "bogus" that my mom wasn't going to provide me a car, so I just had to work for him and drive my cousins around. It was PERFECT. This was in 1996, a month after I turned 16.

My second was an 85.5 with 156k, but in really good cosmetic shape. I was 22. I bought it from a Porsche mechanic who said he had just done the belts & front end seals & clutch. He lied. Bad experience. 4k gone. Should've gotten a second opinion. He ended up going to jail for something. My cousin (the same one) blew it up after he bought it from me, after I tried to convince him not to. Never was paid for that.

My third I bought last year right before I turned 26. I am now 27. Its an 88, I basically bought it for the body, but it keeps going. $1900. About to do the seals, belts/rollers, water pump.

Next car will DEFINITELY be a low mi 88+ 951S. Probably give the NA to my 8 yr old (as you know, once you put any $$ into these things, they are not worth selling) when he is 16. If he is good. If not, it'll go to my 5 yr old daughter or four year old son. Or maybe my 6 mo old daughter. Or maybe my 2 month old embryo.

I'm done, believe me. About 2 years away from that 951, I am about to buy a gmc envoy xl, so we don't have to drive 2 cars everywhere....

I also saw this thread bumping around. Not sure if some of you may be old enough, but try to get a job at a night club as a valet. Er, hell -- any valet job will do.

I started out as a valet at a country club and that was cool...drove a couple 360's, a lambo, a few maserati's -- but pay was modest at best -- maybe $12-14 / hr.

While in college i valet at a night club and make ~$150/night. Three days a week. The night before thanksgiving is espesh sweet since it's also always Ladies' Night. The past two years I've made over $300 for six hours of work.

...just a thought

I just turned 20. Only one 944 I bought last fall for $1250, an 89 NA that needed some work, but nothing I haven't been able to do. It loves to eat ball joints.
