Red face OH NO!! Cayenne now with V6 from VW!

I don't want to have anything to do with this brand anymore!!
How about this.... Cayenne will get a V6 from Volkswagen which results in the whopping performance numbers as following:
0-100 km/h = 9,1 sec.
max speed = 214 km/h.

This makes me sad so sad.

The US has been building V6 trucks for a long time! But you are correct the V8s are worth alot more in the long run! Even Saturn builds an SUV does that mean porsche is now competing with them?

If it helps any...the V6 will be tuned by Porsche to produce more power than the VW version. (I believe it's 250hp vs 212hp.)

No offense, but that doesn't help me much! I personally think VW builds a nice truck. A ford ranger built by mazda is still a mazda. Sorry to be narrow minded but even I know whats good for some may not be good for all!

I personally think that 9.1 seconds for 0-62mph is plenty fast for an SUV, and the majority of people that drive them....

Well, Cayenne and the other Euro SUVs are more like stationwagens that sits a bit higher up in the air, so 9.1 in that perspective is not fast at all.

I like the BMW X5. A great car that is more in line with their other cars as opposed to Porsche. And! The slowest X5 does 0-100 in 8,3 sec...

It's one thing with the Cayenne V8's but this... get a grip Porsche!

Hmm, it could be worse but could be better My '96 4Runner compact truck is a 3.4l DOHC with 24 valves. It does low 8sec 0 to 60. So this makes the VW SUV look pretty bad. Then again VW "van" products were traditionally slow as turtles. But why should any of this concern us in first place? This is a Porsche forum...remember?

On the bright side, the VW guys can grab a Porsche tuned VR6 (I'm assuming its a VR6), and drop it in their cars. I wouldn't mind having that new R32 Golf. Personally, I think these car companies are spreading themselves to thin on model variety.

You guys are funny. You bitch that they dont build exotics (like any of us are buying them) or they dont build what you want. Then they turn out the CGT (which I personally dont like) and they have plans to have a new 911 (again) and you wonder why they are in the SUV market. Try this one, to make enough money to keep creating cars no one buys! You want racing programs (which cost a fortune), etc, etc, etc. The sports car market is still very soft. They have learned their lesson (see also: damn near bankrupt in the 80s from only having 3 offerings). I dont much like the idea of the V-6 but they are a car company designed to sell cars (trucks, tractors, whatever). If you are on this board then you already own an entry level Porsche (what a joke), why not a second one. What do you think 911 guys were saying when they started on the 924?

That leaves only 2 assumptions to be made:
1) very few people on this board know how to make money in the auto business. I refuse to believe this.

2) some of you are becoming the elitist dicks that separate us from the Boxster crowd. I find this far more likely.

It is a hard world and I have just donned my flame resistant underwear...is it getting hot in here?

Whatever, I just don't like SUV's, they do nothing for me.

Nothing to do with being an "elitist dick", The Cayanne just does not interest me very much, I don't read the articles on it for that reason.
I have driven it, very nice but it all comes down to personal preference for me.
I don't hold anything against Porsche for trying to make money, I would rather see Porsche build their SUV's than be purchased by another car maker.

just my .000955 cents

That is my point Marc. If the options are make a really profitable SUV or be bought by XXXX (fill in the blank), then start building. It was more directed to the people who havent driven one. If you dont like SUV's I can see that. Some people have no need. I am starting to need one more and more. When I do take the plunge, I prefer that it have the right badge on it! BTW, sharing parts with VW makes them cheaper to own. Think about 944 door handles.

Matt, I've seen the big picture at the end of it all. You....., were in it so that says good things about you.However...., There are reasons that cars are made in more than one color! And to much of my life is rapped up in them!If I choose to walk away from a product that has been my whole life ! It will be sad for me but people like you won't give a damn! I like my porsches gaurds red W/tan!
