But our 951s have a water pump which runs off a thermostat and runs on after shutdown as needed. What you hear under-hood in addition with the fans running, as it pumps coolant thru the turbo area and circulates the heat out of that area. I agree with the synthetic being less conducive to a 'coking' of the turbo bearing in addition to this cooling feature in the 951.

The 931 wasn't as fortunate in this area, and many turbos died an early death because of it. Priced the cost and availability of a 931 turbo ? It is off the chart.....

the 931 turbo is just a k26 variant. they are not any more expensive to obtain than a 951 k26, and you can find rebuile ones for under 700 bucks easily. The 931 has some expensive, unobtanium parts but the turbo is fortunately not one of them.

My go to has been Valvoline VR1 20W-50. There have been lots of debates on this over the years (much more so on the air cooled forums) and while VR1 might not have the die hard following of Brad Penn, it does have the ZDDP numbers prerequisite for our motors, and the price is right. Autozone will put it up for sale from time to time, or I have had a lot of luck ordering on Amazon:

If you are going to point out where people are wrong in every thread, it would be fair that others do the same to you.

20W-50 Mobil 1 Racing does not exist. Perhaps you meant 0W-50, because that is something that they make. Or maybe you meant 20W-50 V-Twin oil as I have heard of people running it due the high ZDDP content.

Current Mobil oil chart can be found below:

Ian-

I actually have 4 cases of it in my garage, and perhaps it has been discontinued since I bought it.

It was purchased trackside as well as at my local Fleet Farm store.

Sorry if you were offended.

I'm not at all offended, I just think you are rather pedantic.

Mike, don't think that formulation if offered in the US. Any idea what its Zn/P count is?

I import it from the UK!
