I think the hole is still there on the tunnel, so you could just move the mount to the chassis like the early cars. Having it on the seat means you don't have to loosen the belt to slide the seat.

What I am looking for is the lowest possible "butt section" in a 944 type seat, with full manual adjustment. [QUOTE]
Did you remove the 20-30mm aluminum spacers from the mounting above the floor? My 78 had them but I pulled them out and installed shorter screws to increase helmet room & lower center of gravity.
Regarding seats I have limited experience but this I know:
-Late 924 (so presumably series 1 944) sliders can be made to accept late model 944 seats (of the non-sport variety). All you need to do is measure & drill 2 holes in the sliders. I have done this & it works superbly & you still retain the ability to undo this "parts swapping".
-Late 944 non sport seats can be made to work in a 78 924 in another way if you prefer. This is the method I used for a couple of reasons (one reason is safety because the late has double locking sliders vs single):
Install late 944 with the bases/sliders into an early 924 without ANY drilling or modifications whatsoever!
... but due to the driver's being motorized & the late 944 seat belt mounting to the seat base you need to put the late drivers on the pass side & visa-versa & then you need to use your 924 (early 944?) factory seat belt. It works so slick. I'm very very pleased. The only detraction is now the seat adjustment lever near your ankles is on the wrong side. Minor.
*COULD SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS:
Do 944 seat belts have a "twist" in the webbing for the shoulder belt? Both my cars have this but I have had them out... am noticing other cars (like the wife's ford) don't have a twist. Did I screw up on the install?

I believe that was an option...in fact I've never seen those spacers in a 944, only in a 924.

I have run racing buckets on my cars for ever, but I do like to track my car and sliding around in the stock seats is no fun. I was using Sparco sprints, but I just bought a Sparco Ergo with removable halo for the next round. Weight reduction is another big reason for me to run racing seats; those stock 8 way power seats weigh a ton!

Those look really comfortable!
I have a set of the early seats' aluminum height spacers, they came out of an '83 944 with sport seats. Interesting option, but I won't ever use them.
V2, I've noticed that cloth seats let you sink a little lower into them than the leather ones (probably because the leather has gotten taught and dry). You might get an extra 1/4"?
