For fun 1/4mile run.
Going to The track (1/4mile) this weekend.
Its just for fun but I was wondering a good way to get a better 1/4mile time without dumping the clutch (I have no want's or need for a new trans)
I figured octane booster is going to be added just to "make sure" my engine is not being retarded from what could be bad gas. I Was thinking about taking things out of the car to lower the time. Spare, Passanger seat, Rear seats, all carpets. Then came to the conclusion I really don't care that much to improve .2 So any advice other then don't miss a shift?

I would practice cutting a good light. That is very important especially if you are racing in a bracket class. To start out with, roll up to the line and pull up your ebrake but keep your finger on the button. start to rev your engine to what you feel is a reasonable rpm and when the light turns let go of the clutch and the handbrake at the same time. YOu can also, if you have a decent ebrake let the clutch out just a little bit as your revving the car on the line so that when the light changes you will have that little estra advantage. Don't let the clutch out too much or you will roll the lights and looks stupid, JK. Just have fun and good luck.

pardon my forwardness but how the hell is pulling the e-brake and letting go right before you launch going to make you any faster? It just dosn't make any sense whatsoever to me. Why can't you just get your revs up and give it a little gas while gently butquickly engaging the clutch when you launch, I don't see what the parking brake could possibly help in this case... My advice would be to buy or borrow a g-tech and find out exaclty when to shift. Trust me I knocked about .2 secs consistantly by shifting about 200-300 rpms short of the redline from 2nd to 3rd. I think it has something to do with the lower end torque giving you a better push. Oh yeah dont forget to run it at about 50 miles past the low fuel light goes on, and get rid of the spare tire and jackbefore you hit the strip, trust me it helps a lot!

I know this luke and when I said octane booster I meant "Toulean" <-- Paintstore But they were closed so I figured walmart $1.50 is better then nothing...) BTW the car had 87 octane 1/2 tank I belive as oxford ohio BP gas was in there and its compleate crap Then I added 1/2 tank of 93 and some 0-60 octane booster (maybe 1 point at most) The day was pretty fun, I got a total of 4 runs in and here are my best results.
R/T 1.235 (was first time and was just trying to get a good number)
60 2.226
330 6.367
1/8 9.785
Mph 72.16
1000 12.680
1/4 15.160
MPH 91.15
*(Please Note that this was my 1st run!)*
Here is why... Some Dragster blew tranny oil all over the ground at the line up area (across all 8 lanes) They cleaned it up best they could but my next run was a 2.5 60ft (spinning) and never seemed to get much better.. I would spin on just feathering a 2500rpm launch after the first run. I Think that a high - Mid 14 is possible with a good 60ft time..
Overall its what I expected as my car has 116,000 and this matched what any professional drivers results were (read magazine reviews).

44 mag,
I have raced many times at the track and when I started I was told to do this in order to keep the car from rolling the light and enable you to get a better light. It is like having a stall converter on an automatic transmission. By holding the ebrake it enables you to rev your engine up and let your clutch out to a point where it would normally make your car start to roll forward. This gives you a better launch and reaction time. Revving the engine and quickly engaging the clutch works but it also makes for slower reaction times because you have to let the clutch out the entire way, which takes more time. Next time when you get in your car try it and imagine you’re on the starting line it is much easier to visualize when you are actually doing it. I was told to do this by a former NHRA Pro Stock Driver so I trust it is valid and it worked for me starting out.

Alright , Now I can see why you would want to use the e-brake if its a case of not wanting to roll foreward and get a better reaction time. When I get my next 944 I'll give it a try.

I don't know why you guys are abusing these cars drag racing. If you want to drag, why don't you get something cheap to fix, like a Mustang?
How many drag race strips are there in Europe?
