Default Unreal Difference! Eliminated Stick Shift Vibration!

I followed this video on YouTube...

The washers and ball bearing washers are still available on the company's website. I bought the bolt and the nylon nut from Lowe's.

The only things different I did were that I took the shifter out because I didn't want to dirty up my interior when grinding. When I put it back in, I cut a piece of 2 inch foam from an arts and craft store and mounted it between the metal shifter base and metal body of the car. I think this also made a difference as it pushed the plastic piece that holds the ball of the metal shifter tighter into the base and it dampened the vibration of metal on metal between the car and the shifter base.

ANYWAY.... The difference is unreal. I had replaced all my shifter parts in the past (ALL! metal base, plastic holder, shift lever, etc. etc.) because I had an annoying vibration in the stick shifter in higher RPMs. But none of this worked. The above FINALLY corrected this!!! The vibration went from a 10 to a .09.

If you have a shifter that vibrates, try this!!! Only cost about 30 bucks.

I have a late model 944. 86

I was extremely skeptical that this would do anything since I didn't feel like my all new parts would vibrate since they weren't worn. But I was desperate.

Isn't this same thing accomplished by purchasing a new foam piece that goes around the shifter and the shifter rod goes through it? I purchased a new ball socket and am going to use the Only 944 new shifter mechanism with the needle bearings...however, yours is probably much more economical way to do it.

Tiger, I am not sure about what you are looking at. I can only tell you that I purchased all new factory parts for my shifter before doing this. Ball socket, the metal shifter, the metal base and all new connection pieces. I didn't try any other kits. I just saw that video online and tried it. I just added the foam because my wife was going to craft store for some Christmas wreathes while I was removing the mounting bracket and got the idea for the foam. Hope this helps. Now checking the link from rlets after I send this...

Kit from only 944 is the exact same. But it's not worth if you own a dremel or a grinder. Parts were 1$19 with tax for everything. But, you need a grinder or a grinding tool like a Dremel. Otherwise, theirs is a more economical option. Those are the same components.

Minus the foam lol.

You can get these parts for about $21 shipped using these part numbers from McMaster-Carr:

2x 5909K11

4x 5909K71

Then go to your local hardware store and get a M10x50mm bolt, thread pitch either 1.25 or 1.5mm, whatever they have. Get a nyloc nut with a matching diameter pitch. Buzz off the weld and punch out the wallowed pin, install the new parts with a little grease and call it a day. Don't overtighten or you'll prematurely wear the bearings. No issues on my car, been almost 2 years of heavy use.

Using the urethane trick to the transaxle mount also helps. The shifter has less movement around turns and on acceleration. I know some here have done it. I happened to score a deal on a LR ultra transaxle mount an have the three only944 linkages so my shifter doesn't move at all in turns or acceleration. It's easier to shift gears and find them when the transaxle isn't swinging in the back and aiding in destroying the CV joints in the process.

Dear guys..I just chumped off and bought the shifter from only 944..And the new foam piece because mine was cracker crumbs. Have enough projects already. Having to machine a new insertion tool for getting the bearings back in the TT right now. 1st went in like butter. Second one cocked a bit and will have to be pulled (gently) from the tube. They were a real b**ch coming out..hope they are easier going back in. Batting 500 so far.

Tiger, I just got my only944 shifter in the mail, too! Took me over a year to make the decision, lol.
Let's see how it goes. I've only heard great things. I wouldn't have bought it because I don't need it, but people just say it's so fun.
