Default Seafoam experiences on high mileage 951?

OK I've searched and dug and I can't seem to get a definitive consensus on the stuff....but from those that are on the 'yea' side, it seems to work great.

My car has 150000 miles and is running very well (yes, I know, why bother then?) - but from what I've heard, adding a can only makes the car run that much better, as you would never notice a very slow degradation in performance. plus, I've only had the car since Feb. so I really don't have a model in which to compare. My city mileage is right around 20-21 or about 325-350 miles to a full tank.

So what do you all think? Save my $15?

that's because the RL search function stopped working about 2 years ago.

Howdy Tod..
I've seen the youtube vids of smoke screens belching from the exhaust..
May be interesting to now question those SF users on how good/bad the engine runs a year later.

As far as fuel system cleaners go the only thing I have found that actually seems to do anything is The bottle of Techron concentrate.

I'm driving an N/A with 138k miles on the engine.

I myself have used Seafoam on many cars over many years, and have had nothing but good experiences, and not just "I think it might have helped a litte, maybe...", I really have seen substantial improvement in a few cases, though it's effect has varied from car to car given all the variables of different vehicles in different condition.

Say it's snake oil or junk, it's your car, don't use it if you don't like it. But I have seen true benefit from it and will continue to use it. Yes, on the 951 as well.

I had the oil pan off my 944S last year with 170k on it. It was pretty clean in there and I would see no need to seafoam. Its not going to magically fix loss in compression or anything else that "robs" power and the slight amount of varnish in these motors doesn't effect performance. Its not like the motor I pulled out of my 58 Plymouth with an inch of sludge everywhere because of its life with non-detergent motor oil. It was that bad and had only run 70k miles and had been parked in 1966.

If I was you, I'd skip the seafoam and open the sucker up and pop some new rod bearings in there at that amount of miles.

I used it on the 924S and it made a noticeable difference. Don't listen to the haters.

After the engine is warm, use the hose from the brake booster to add 1/2 can to the intake tract with the engine idling (have someone in the car to make sure it doesn't die). Turn off and let sit for 10-15 minutes, then crank it up and burn out the crap. Don't do this in a crowded area, because there will be significant amounts of smoke.

Use the other 1/2 in the gas tank and enjoy.

I used this stuff 6 months ago in the intake (via brake booster hose) on my 951, because it had made my crx run much much better. For example, before the seafoam, the crx could not drive smooth at 2000rpm in first gear. After, it did and the differences were quite good.

So I used it on my 944. Same, huge differenes. 2-3 mpg increase, +power, +smoother running, I mean its a noticeable, discernible difference. Using it in the oil in the crx helped mpg and power, so I then used it in the 944. Of course I changed the oil and filter soon after. But the old oil came out horrendously dirty. So, that really helped mpg, too. It really runs even smoother after doing the oil.

Putting safoam in the gasoline is useless in my experience.

This was 6+ months ago. There will be no long term problem, this product has been used for years and its the one product that all car groups can agree works. Search the 911 forum, they use seafoam a lot. My car had 115k at the time fyi.

I used 1/3 can at a time to the brake booster vacuum, in a hot engine, then turn engine off for 30 mintues, get the engine engine suitably hot again, floor it through the revs in all gears until exhaust is 100% clean again.

+1 on not doing it where there are people.

Btw, last week my car passed smog with incredible numbers, including 6ppm NO (avg is 400, fail is 1200). I should also say my car was runnig great before the seafoam.

I use a bottle of Seafoam in the gas tank before winter storage in all the cars as a fuel stabilizer. The 951 runs a little smoother than it used to, but I have over 200k miles on it. Can't tell any difference on the 993. My Toro snow blower however did benefit greatly from using it in the gas/oil mix and runs much smoother. So I highly recommend it for snow blower use.

Well, for $10, I figured why not try? I will add half a can to the brake booster line (will need to look up where that line is...yup, bit of a noob here!) - and the other half to the fuel.

I will report back in once done!

Thanx for the input y'all!

^^ haha Yeah I've see all the you tube snippets. Not doing it near by place for fear of eviction! But I'm just curious as to where the brake booster hose is? These cars have waaay too many vacuum lines! Anybody have a pic? Is it the fairly fat one just below/forward of (towards the bumper) the fuse box?
